Im able to get a AU1 XR 8 motor complete, my question is every one says "to keep ur existing ECU get an Explorer Manifold or AU3 XR 8 manifolds and GT40P heads to put on a stocko 5.0".
Now whats the difference with the AU 1 XR top end?

Do these have GT40P heads for starters?

Are these 200kw engines?

If i use the complete top end -T/B, Air flow meter, injectors, cam it should be a straight swap, right?

My ECU should cope or does it need to be changed cause of the bigger injectors and cam as i want to run the XR cam?

Im asking all this as every 1 buys parts seperate so this should be a good buy as a complete motor?

Extractors for E7 heads and Gt40P heads are the same fit for an ED? (read other posts and every 1 basically says they fit both heads)

Also as those engines have coils would i need them or my dizzy or will my ECU work the coils for ignition.

Also any one know the details of a AU 1 XR8 motor?

Any help on this would be appreciated

Chances are you won't get the bigger 24lb injectors off and AU1 engine as far as I know most of them came with the same 19lb's that you currently have. Aside from that it should be a straight swap. All e-series headers will bolt up but depending on design will burn your leads out very quickly. Also from memory AU1's are the 185kw version. Not that it makes any difference.

So my ecu will work the cam with no flat spots - rough idle?

im pretty sure from AU onwards came with the blue 24lb injectors, only one's i've seen have been the fairys and base model V8's except ex-cop cars as mine had the blue injectors.

and i personally wouldnt bother with a series 1 XR, would at least go for S2 200kw. but would be easier and make more power (possibly) with a top end rebuild.

my .02c!

Go series 3 XR8 top end. That's what I've done and I've got 196rwkw from it after a custom tune.

My S1 XR8 has 19lb injectors, nothing wrong with the top ends, just they dont have the ported GT40P Heads

If you are planning on running the standard cam I'd look at an AU2 motor got the best cam out of them if not I would probably get an aftermarket cam and then wither AU1,2, or 3 top end really wont make much difference

Is there Ported and Unported GT40P heads? And are the Ported heads the pick of the bunch?
Did AU2 have ported heads?

The AU3 220kw had the same heads as the T3 T-series, which had larger valves and some minor CNC blend work done by Yella Terra. If you can get a set then they're a good thing, but don't stress too hard, similar or better results can be achieved with any GT40P head.
