It could be our Falcons are heavier, and have different gearbox and diff ratios.
I was only ever .2-.3 tenths behind my mates Series 2 EL XR6 down the quarter, both with exhaust and extractors. Once i had enclosedmypod filter and got some cold air induction like him, we were neck and neck.

I had a guy pull up next to me in an EL XR6, he looked at the XR "8" badge & laughed at me, but when the lights went G all the 6 done was wheelspin for 20m then lost about 5 car lenghts each gear, he finnaly caught up at another set of red lights, and said whoa I have never been beaten by an 8 yet I ,think I will have a bit more respect next time!

are you aware of the work done to kenny's car, it was an unfair fight I reckon 8-)

I've dusted XR6s in my GLi "8", but I think that was more driver ability than grunt, there's more to it than just mashing the pedal into the firewall, which tends to create wheelspin.

Nah, that's not what I was gettin at. I find it believable that the 8 won the drag.

What I wondered was:

*why the hell did the wanker in XR6 dump the clutch with a shedload of revs on board (becuase trust me, unless you have s**t tyres, this is what you need to do to get the wheels spining for 20 metres in an XR6.) in a traffic light brawl?

*who, seriously, has a conversation at the lights about the drag they just had? :) I just though it sounded funny :D

What was the difference between series 1 & 2 in the EL XR8. I know the S2 had explorer inlet. Mine's an S2 OPT 20 police pack. Feels a bit slow off the line till I reach about 60Km/h then it starts to pick up. My mate has a manual EF XR6 with upgraded cam and exshaust and it feels heaps quicker than my XR8.

slow up to 60kmh ay? u may have an electrical problem.. take it to ford n ask them to double check that the ECU is able to determine whether the gearbox is (not)in reverse.

Seriously mate, if it's an auto (which it sounds like it is) it will be slowish off the mark, no matter whats in it. It's just the silly Falcon first gear.

After that, she's all fun and games :)

MY mate has an el XR6 and I have an NC Fairlane V8, and I punished him. My car was stock and his had a full exhaust with pace maker headers high flow cat and a knn air filter.
