My XR8 has a rather interesting stench coming from the exhaust/engine. Smells like rotten eggs, and at first I thought my mate had filled his dacks.

But it has happened more than once, and generally noticeable when idling, after travelling at more than 80kms (i.e. Freeway Travel).

I'm assuming my Cat's are shot, but would like to confirm before I start pricing new ones.

what model is it? could be the fuel your using, if its a different brand or different octane content, might have some funky additives in it, could be that. if your cats are shot you'll hear it and feel it constantly rather than than every now and then.

It's an EL XR8 Series 2. I always run with High Octane Fuel and generally use either Optimax or BP Ultimate.

I had the car serviced recently and they put some injector cleaner in, but I can't imagine that would be causing it.....then again I wouldn't know.

it can make things smell abit funny as it burns the additive off. i have heard of high octane fuels aging cats alittle quicker.

The cats are working..It's the sulpher in our Aussie fuel...
The cats are buring it or burning hydrocarbons then exposes sulpher..[rotten egg gas]
