There always been heaps of chatter about this and yer there seems to be a few people out there that have had success with XG handels, but most people will tell ya that getting the door rebushed (much cheaper) will fix the problem rather than just patch the symptoms

rebush the door hinges (pain in the a** with the hinges still on the car, trust me on that one)
make sure the lock mech in the door (the bit the striker on the door pillar gets locked onto) is clean and well lubricated
make sure the 3 countersunk screws holding the lock into the door are tight
make sure the door is aligned to the body and the lock is aligned to the striker post on the door pillar, and you *shouldnt* have a problem with the handles

would there be a way to adapt EF/EL handles, or EB/ED handles to the XF's?

The EF handles look nice

nah, piss easy , same as doing central locking.
u can pick up the kits for $40-$50 or do wot i did & fitted 2 alarms with c/l control , 1 does the doors, 1 opens it. :)
