nah starter is fine, it was a bad case of hydrolic lock up, as soon as the head came off all the rockers fell back down, gave a massive hissss, new head gasket in ther now, just gotta put the manifold back on, hopes its all ok

you did check for cracks in the cyl's and on the head ? I know silly question but I've forgotten that once LOL

yeah i had a decent look there was nothing obvious, wont know till i fire it up and drive it for a bit

ok so i put it all back together, massive massive leak from between the head and the block, turn out one of the water sleeves in the head had corroded right to the edge.......................ITS f**k!!!
getting a new motor delivered today, everything will good after that 
thanks for the help everyone, was a mission, but at least now it should be right. |

Here's a pic of a piston from an EL 97 model, that blew a heater hose, while the guy that had the car was in a shop, ( he was a travelling rep), the engine was left idling, and it got so hot, the rocker cover gasket got displaced, and oil leaked out, engine caught fire...etc..etc..The firey's came and put it out. The car had 70,000k's on it, and the engine was replaced under warranty, only 2 yr old at the time.
