I am wanting to give my 4L xh more boot to but and not sure where to go from where i stand now, I'm currently running tickford motor with, competition pace maker extractors, 2 1/2 inch exhaust straight through and custom air intake with 3 inch pod filter. I was looking at buying a custom tuned j3 chip with stage 3 crow cam for 695$ but not sure if this is worth it? Any suggestions or input muchly appreciated.
Cheers Ben.

zorst and intake where my first mods and as you might know didnt do a great deal..

a 977b cam is great from launch as it gives a decent amount of torque to mid range where it dies off. i drove my mates EL XR6(auto) with no mods except valvetrain upgrades and the 977b and had a ball in it.
but i relised bigger is better ( for me anyway ) as i dont really punch 1st in my car to hard i can keep the traction up with a 1521a. my mate gets a car on my the whole 200ish meters but soon as it gets around 4k in 3rd i reel him in. but mine has 240 duration and a 0.050(something) lift.

plus also have a think about throttlebody and injectors as they can help drematicly with the cam-chip upgrade.

on more of a personal note, save your money and buy a XRT when you get your fulls. spending 2-4k on your XH gets you 215kw spend that on a FG and you have 350rwkw.

1) He already has the following;
"Tickford motor with, competition pace maker extractors, 2 1/2 inch exhaust straight through and custom air intake with 3 inch pod filter." My opinion..piss of the pod and fit a panel filter.

2) Oversized throttle body will do sweet f**k except at peak revs. Heaps of guys run stock throttle Bodies on Turbo cars and get great numbers, ask Troyman. Injector upgrade, AU injectors, if the thing is NA, AU injectors will give you all you need. Only if the rngine is highly worked would you need to consider anything bigger and then you would need to chip the ECU and rescale the injectors.

3) Are you talking 215 Fly wheel Kilowatts or 215 Rear wheel Kilowatts?

I'd be fitting an XR6/XR8 diff with the 3.45:1 Ratio, that'll give it alot more poke.

Is it auto? The tall first gear can really take the wind out of the sails. Convert to manual and you'll never look back. That with 3.45 diff gears will give it a bit more poke.

+1

3.45 will make it get up and boogy much better than the cam. It's like changing from auto to manual, big difference in launch even though the engine remains the same.

Regrind camshafts aren't too expensive and a custom J3 chip from TI Performance shouldn't cost more than $200. If you are putting the cam in yourself, you would probably get change back from $500.

Is $695 for crow cam stage 3 and J3 include installation? Is the CrowCam a billet or regrind?

the installation is not included and the cam is a grind. I wouldnt be putting the cam in myself and with the chip i wouldnt know which shoulder to turn over first to look for help. I have -1 knowledge of the computers in cars. Theyre saying that the average gain from this particular cam and j3 chip is 25-30 rwkw. Once i get my full licence i am planning on a turbo. All opinions are welcome and appreciated cheers.

A SOHC upgrade for E series from Wade is usually $110-120 regrind.
And change over is around the $200 mark.
Im ditching my cam and goin back to a 977b, only thing different this time will be extractors and possibly high Porformance valve springs as my car has 280k. Wade and Crow have both told me don't stress about them but its not there car that might caplode it a valve stuffs up.

I've been told by numerous tuners that I should get 180rw with cam, full exhaust, valves, and some AU gear.

If I was to get au injectors what would have to be modded to run them and what could I be expecting to feel different?

Would it make the car run any better? And do you know if there are any threads about how to tune a distributor or change one?

from what I know to tune the dizzy you have to join to points in the fuse panel and that gives you 2 minutes I think to tune it, pretty easy to change them though

If it's an original XH XR6, he'll already have it.

If my car is stalling every time I first start it in the morning or for every 24 hrs what would be the cause of that? I thought maybe throttle body and ISC needed cleaning but didn't make a difference, maybe the distributor?
