mine has a 2.5in with 1 muffler.. (behind extractors) i reckon it sounds good,, not excessivly loud..

not sure what engine mods you have done but many people recomend a 2.25in for the xflow.. 2.5 is apparently too big,, never had any trouble with mine, and im now running a bigger cam etc so it isnt a problem

its louder without.. (has a different sound aswell) but removing cats is naughty.. big fines if you get caught..

if you have major mods planned then a 2.5 wouldnt hurt.. it certainly didnt feel like it hurt performance when mine was a stocker

biggest problem is that extractor choice is limited unless you want to move your airbox

my mate said that a 2.5inch with a lukey freeflow just in front of the diff with lukey extractors. is that an okay system? would pacemaker headers be better?

IIRC lukey are one of the few brands who make a set of extractors that will fit an EFI XE/XF without having to relocate the airbox

according to my local zorst shop, cat + ultraflow on a 2.25" system is about as big as you can go on a 250 before it gets too loud

i wouldnt drop it off just before the diff either.. its too loud.. i had mine like that for all of about 5minutes as i didnt have a suitable tailpipe at the time.. i soon got it fixed..

at the moment i have a 2.5inch lukey system with a hotdog just before the diff with mandrel bent tail pipe and sounds a bit crappy. it sounds okay when in low revs but when u give it a bit of stick it loses its tone and sounds airy. is mandrel bent systems any good or r they just good for turbo or high performance cars?

and cheers again for answering my questions fellaz

I've got a set of extractors and 2.25" system in my XF and it has a very unique note. Very raspy. Not too loud although at freeway speeds there is a noticable drone but its not a loud drone. I wouldn't go a 2.5" Its overkill on a stock or mild 250.

Hey dude, go a Lukey Ultraflow or Race muffler and get a new cat converter while your at it. Leave the exhuast size to a 2.5 as well. Just having those will make the XF sound awesome. Dont worry about a hotdog.

Then after that get your Pacemakers headers and it will go hard! Then either do your enigne rebuild kit or chuck in a decent aftermarket cam :P

Later dude

Just use a long bar & hammer it into the pipe and smash the guts out of the cat (it only ceramic) then who will know.

BUT I'M NOT REALY TELLING YOU THIS, IT'S JUST THE LITTLE VOISE IN YOUR HEAD.
