hey all, yeah i know, more probs with this damned car - but you get that i guess with older cars..

i got my new fuel pump in today - went straight in (its amazing when its the right part), and had to take it for a drive around the block to let it have a bit of a drive.

newayz, headlights on (lowbeam) and thats it (no radio on - cant get a good station on it newayz) i put my foot down a lil, and i come up to a bend in the road, so move off the accel, and start to brake. the car dont start to pull up too well, so i push it harder, start to turn in and it stalls on me. no alt light came on or nething, jst stalled. start it (after remembering to take it outa D...) and off i went again

doing the same thing again, and it dies again. tho this time, it kinda just died away - didnt stall dead as such, kinda rolled on and then died...

its not the battery, coz that thing is brand new
its not lack of fuel - its just got a new pump on it and all the fitting where done up very tightly so there is no chance of leakage.

any ideas?

also, when i put my foot down the first time, i heard like a clicking sound - and it felt like it was miss-firing or sumthing :S

damned car..... lol

thanks in advance :)

check for leaks around teh booster.
get someone to sit in the car and play with the brake pedal, see what happens.

is the fuel pump priming properly? sounds like you got fuel splashing away from the pick up under brakes and leaning the engine out till it stalls.
either that or get your ignition modual checked

just a thought,, when you get off the "loud" pedal you suddenly have a whole lot of manifold vacuum..
didnt you also say it does it under heavy breaking.. (also vacuum related

thats two strikes for vacuum.. thats where i would be looking..
just an idea..

Could be a number of things, check the fuel filter if it is blocked it could be starving at low rpm, also if the car has been sitting around there may be some water in the tank, pour in half a cap of metho to disolve it.
Check the diaphram in the brake booster if it is damaged this could be why the brakes are not functioning correctly, if you can get it to run at low idle pump the pedal and if the revs go up its all working ok, if the pedal pressure does not change when the engine is running compared to the engine not running then you have a problem!!

when i replaced the fuel pump in the tank, i gave the filter in the base of the swirl pot a bit of a clean out - i havnt looked at the in line fuel filter to be honest.

when i got it started today (drained battery for some reason) i let it idle for a while and come up to operating tempurature. i pumped the brake pedal a few times quite hard - and the idle didnt change too drastically.. is that a good thing?

when the engine is off - the pedal has a mucher harder feel (harder to move) to it compared to when it is running

it idles really well for this sorta motor - the best iv had..

any other ideas

thanks muchly :)

read up, it was to do with the remains of the LPG system that had been installed, which was trying to make the car run on gas when there wasnt anything LPG related left....

its always the really simple things isnt it

it was only by pure chance that my mate happened to be standing in the right place and could see the LEDs light up when i reved the motor - and then change when it tried to switch over to gas..

being that the leds are under the dash, i woulda been hard pressed to find it by myself!

now i just gotta rip all that s**t out, so there is no chance of it happening again :)

thanks for the help tho guys :)
