new problem !
this car just keeps on getting better and better is what your thinking im sure!!!

the hose that runs off the inlet manifold thru runners 3 and 4, to the isc, is BLOCKED ! lol
i pulled it off to clean the isc out with some good old carby cleaner, and just checking out the conditions of the hoses revealed that it has a blockage!

this would explain why she wont idle well at all - and when the engine has warmed up.

it lets a TINY amount of air (or carby cleaner :P lol) but its not nearly enuf to let the isc do its thing!
unfort, the zl hoses to the isc are different moulds... so il have to go to the wreckers sometime and find a 'new' one - or make one myself.

im still trying to get it to start and run - will crank hard, its still got timing and spark but just wont fire again.
its got fuel and a working fuel pump, but just wont fire!

it was working straight after changing the fuel pump but it just died on me and i cant get it running again.

a FD shouldent have a ISC, i think you mean the aux air valve (replaces the fuel pump blanking plate)

cut the hose shorter to get the 'blockage' out of the line to the aux air - someone had put a WINE CORK in it!

she came close to firing over and running, but it didnt - if i had more time today, i would have had a closer look at it to try and figure it out, so im still working on that one...

still cant get the thing to start!

when i can get it started, it takes a LOT to get it started... have to pump the accel a LOT and she will f@rt over a couple of times then start and run.

today i checked fuel lines and pressures and all is right according to the workshop manual.

fuel TO the rail comes in on the lower of the two rail fittings
fuel RETURNING to the tank exits via the reg thingy on the back of the top line fitting.

(tho, when i tested this, i wasnt sure which was which, so i pulled the top (return) off, and i had a LOT of fuel come out of the return fitting (top) - which according to the manual, is correct.

the fd is still running the zl rail and injectors - inc fittings and reg thingy

if this is any help, the fan only blow air on screen and at feet, it used to do it on selected positions, but not anymore. this is with the key on acc and fan on - without the engine running, its not getting any vacume to run? is that correct? when pushed to 'off' for the vent selector, you can hear it dumping vacume. so its getting some sort of vacume, to be able to hear it dump it.
im not worried about the climate controll atm, i just want the car to run! lol

ideas?

cheers

interesting point to note
the colour she wears is not an xe colour nor an xd one either.

its actually an xf colour - called "gold mist (metallic)"

which got me thinking, shes a sept 84 car.. maybe she was ment to be a FE ltd, but got fitted with xe parts.

im sure it wouldnt be the first time the ford f**k up with something like that.

this f**k car is REALLY starting to s**t me bigtime!

today, went wreckering for some new bits to eliminate them from the problem equation - what i got today is:
- a guarenteed working AFM
- guarenteed working efi relay (the 7pin one on the shock tower) - both from the same running car.

came home, put bits on - and still no luck!

took plugs out - they where burnt out!

went and brought brand new ones - of the correct heat ranges.
(the incorrect plugs was not my fault, part numbers and whatever had changed in the book at s*** verses the correct and up to date part numbers for plugs.. anyhow - right ones are in it now)

still no fire!

WTF can it be that is not allowing it to run?

i have fuel pressure, i have BIG spark, timing is right, i have everything i need in correctness, but its STILL NOT FIRING!

im out of ideas now.

only thing left to change now is the ECU... and that wont be changed - but she still injects so is working on some level.

ideas anyone?

it seems to ecu is has fallen over itself and is now f**k!

i unplugged it from the harness and removed it from the car for s**t and giggles tried to start the car!
and guess what
the f**k thing started!

i could not believe that the thing STARTED!

it ran for a couple or so seconds - so i would think that it was running off whatever fuel had made its way up to the rail when i primed it.

so now it looks like i need a new ecu - $66 at the wreckers for a known working one.

il see about heading down there now and getting it.

i thought the injectors got thier on / off signal from the ecu?!

oh well - im happy, it might still be in my good books afterall :)

its got new stuff either side of the head, so it *shouldnt* want to die in the near future.

maybe water got into the ecu... as always the ford sunroof leaks and the passengers footwell was a bit damp.

actually.. that pretty much lines up with when it last rained heavy to when the car stopped starting.

why didnt i think of the ecu in the first place?!
oh wells.. i know now at least.

il post later when i have the 'new' ecu in to say whether or not it wants to run :)

I may be way off but doesnt the timing need to be at about 8deg BTDC? As in advanced? My long rusty experience with older cars with dizzys was timing advance.
Just a thought..

injectors are reading at 4v each when firing.

so im guessing thats part of my problem.

im re-doing the terminals for the computer at the battery as a starting point and we will see where we go from there.

doesnt explain why its flooding tho..

re-did the terminals at the battery today - still no luck.

phoned ford out of desperation to see if they where able to help me out and spoke to an older guy who did his trade on xd/e/f's

he ran thru a list of possible faults, all of which we have allready changed or tested/verrified.

one of his suggestions that we haddnt thought of, was the dizzy module might have fallen over itself and not be producing enough spark - depending how bad its fallen over it can still produce spark - but not enough to fire the engine.

going to go back to the wreckers - and pick up a new dizzy with module for the ltd and see where we are after that.

put a new module thing in the dizzy today - STILL NO LUCK!

in a clutching straws effort - we also changed the fuel pressure regulator with one that is a definate known worker.

still no luck.

all electrics seem to be within normal tollerances from the workshop manual - as they where tested today as well with a multimeter.
