G'day All,

I will be upfront and honest straight away, have been looking at this site for a couple of weeks now and come to the the conclusion that a lot of the people posting here are wankers! But having said that there seems to be some quite knowledgeable people on here also I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU GUYS!!

So my question is: Can somebody provide me with the specs and idiosyncracies that a Victorian Police candy car came out with in 1981?

Some background about the car and what i know: It was a highway car, yellow obviously, has a manual and air conditioning, has an engine oil cooler, has track rods, has all the correct holes in the pillars, doors and dash and Know the guy in the job who drove it. So it's genuine!Unfortunately he was not a car person and there was one owner between myself and the VP and I would like to restore it to 100% original, I think it is anyway, but would like some feedback from some of you guys!

This is my first post and I hope no one was offended with my first sentence.

By the way have owned this car for 18 years, been garaged for the last 10 and has just over 100 on the clock so she is my baby! Any genuine info would be great and if this post is in the wrong spot let me know.

Cheers
lets go bush

I was at the understanding that all interceptors in the XD and XE were auto's.

I beleive also that they were ALL 351's.

As well as some of the stuff you mentioned already, they also had rubber floor covering instead of carpet.

Lastly, i'm not sure how you can call someone a wanker without meaning any offence.

Ok guys I was wrong I SINCERELY APOLOGISE for the wanker comment, it's just that after reading through some of the forums I came to realise that there seems to be a bit friction between some of the members and a lot of petty nonsense. Which I was hoping not to be a part of! looks like it may be too late for that though, ah well I can take it I started it I guess.

Anyway thanks macman for your comments it was my unerstanding that all highway cars were manuals with air conditioning and the around town cars were autos with no air.

I also believe that they were 351s

Interesting about the floorcoverings though' thats the kind of info I'm after Thanks will check it out

Interesting about the highway and around town cars, i was unaware they had two different packs.

Anyway, they were all based on the base model GL.

I know more about the XE interceptor as i wanted to build one myself. The XE GL interceptors had the Ghia front end (with the extra driving lights) from factory, and also they ALL had an unpainted GREY plastic front bumper with lower spiler lip as fitted to ESP's (dont know if that applies to the XD).

I'd assume that as the XE had the driving lights installed from factory, that the XD interceptor would have had the small under bumper spot lamps fitted also?

Here's two pics (one Police XD) and another interior shot of someone elses car with the gauge pod fitted. I'm lead to beleive that they also came with the 3 gauge pod on the dash board (in place of the dash-top speaker grill).

Some people have told me they're a Ford part, some say they're aftermarket (the one i have is aftermarket) but i've been told that the police pack and some of the Turbo ESP's had these factory fitted too.

I'd say they'd have the full dash too, with oil/volts/temp/fuel/speed and tacho.

It'd make sence they'd have a bigger alternator, seeing as they added the sirens/lights/radio's and whatever else.

When i was a little tacker, we had some good mates in highway for NSW, and we got a fair few of their cars around our place.
I know the local cars ahd the Hella 140 driving lights, they had full boot liners in rubber. They were available in either auto or manual, All had aircon, 4 wheel disc brakes, 351 4 barrel carbs. Full instruments. In the XD, they were very similar to the XE Falcon S. In fact, we owned an XD ESP, and if you took the luxury stuff out of it, you had a highway car.
They ran Bilstien suspension(same as ESP) and taxi pack rims in 14x6 with uniroyal 205 65 14 tyres.

A salesman accidently sold one of these to my grandfather brandnew ( they tried to get it back). It was supposed to be a unmarked cop car .It was lime green. It had the bumper extension and driving lights on the front. The interior had carpet. It was suppose to be a 302 4 speed but it pulled a lot harder that that. My uncle drove me into town one morning he went back a gear at 80km/h to pass a truck and it blew the tyres off.
