dunno about under 5000 but my xb sedan ran a 14.4 with a 302 4 speed single rail and 4.11 9" locked. on street tyres and full exhaust.
this was back in 1997.
but not a stock motor either, lol |

easy.
with a good diff ratio..
already got a decent exhaust and ignition so its just a matter of cleaning the engine. a new cam and all that, some headwork and a nice manifold. not sure how the carby was but.
second hand manifold and doin the labour yaself will make it cheaper aswell.
but while ur doin all that if u can find a 351 crank it would probly help aswell. |

want 14's from a 302clevo, peice of Piss. 150hp wet NOS kit. Absolute walk in the park, and you would probably get 3k change from your 5k budget

i spent 4500 on a rebuild of my ute, 351 clevo.
carby has called it a day, and with 205/65/15in tyres and a c4 auto with 2.92:1 highway diff it still ran a 14.7 on the first and only run.
i got kicked out for no long shirt. |

351, gears, good rubber, and put the car on a diet......
remember, the phase 3's were supposedly good for 14.4's, so if you couldnt get under 14 seconds starting with a 302XY and $5k, you arent trying |

| Well Ive just spent 3.5 on my 351 bottom end and 3k on my heads. Will be throwing it down a track in a month or so after some well earned running-in. 351, 302CC heads and just about everything else u need in or on a head, fat(ish) cam, oversized pistons and all the rnning gear, 850DP, 4.11 gears, 4 spd toploader and new rubber on the way! |
