Decided to replace my factory flywheel with an aftermarket, lightened flywheel. Id have to machine my existing flywheel when i put the new clutch in, so heck, why not get a complete new one??

Anyways, been looking around EVERYWHERE for a lightened flywheel that will suit my car (el xr8) but no luck - American Autos, Rocket Industries, High Performance Worls, Austrack Motorsports, you name it..

All i could find was a yella terra one, which is sweet, but their head office doesnt have them in stock for a MINIMUM of 3 weeks???

Can anyone help me find ANY decent brand lightened flywheel???
I dont care what brand, as long as its a decent one..
I cant wait 3 weeks without a car!!!

Would doing that be as effective as putting in a lightened billet one?

Cos the factory flywheels weigh 10.5kg wheres the lightened ones weigh in at 8.5kg.

LOL!
If youve already got your box out, or are about to, do it.
Personally i wouldnt be doing it if i wasnt changing my clutch, lol.

BPT in guilford west are installing my clutch next week for $270! bargain i think.. im supplying the parts though, of course.
Oh yeah by the way, ive gone for an exedy clutch.

Now, back to the flywheel thing! icon_lol.gif
If i CAN find a lightened flywheel to swap my original with, then i will.
Would anyone know where i can get one? As mentioned in my first post?

Cheers!

Ah cool. Didnt realise they had a workshop down here. Their main workshop is in QLD, I though the NSW workshop was just an agent for some of the gear they sell.

BPT are coming on board as a Sponsor of Fordmods shortly icon_smile.gif

I managed to find myself a billet steel flywheel for $250!! icon_smile.gif
Its imported from the states (dunno what brand) but yeh its being machined at the moment, is 2 kilos lighter than factory..

I pick it up monday morning, then im taking the car to BPT in guildford to get my exedy hd clutch installed with the new flywheel, along with my ford racing pulley set that ive had sitting here for 6 months!!
oh yeah, if then can ill get my ss induction kit installed at the same time, also been sitting here for 6 months! :/

but yeah, do you think that those mods will make 'some' difference?
and by some, i mean will i at least feel it?

cheers guys icon_wink.gif

make sure it is to suit a late efi windsor as there are different flywheels that are balanced differently. you may need to get it matched to you original flywheel.

p.s what ya doing withthe old one icon_wink.gif

Yeah I think they stick the flywheels on an actual crankshaft to balance them.

that should be ok then. i have seen people fit american import flywheels and had have balance problems. they develop a slight vibration at about 3000 rpm. but if they are machining it for a late efi windsor there wont be a problem. as long as its not a stroker.

i will take you up on the flywheel when its all done icon_wink.gif

lighter flywheel will give it cleaner revs but will take away torque.
4wd's use a heavy flywheel to give them low down grunt but they are lazy
