Falcon/Fairmont/Fairlane ->  EF/EL ->  D Pillar Trim on EF/EL Wagon
Fitment of a D-Pillar trim on to an EF/EL Wagon

The D pillar trim usally falls off when driving from the wind because of old age. Or for my case, the sponage got caught on it. It is easily replaced and takes around 20mins including finding tool in the garage/shed. If it takes longer then that, you should clean your garage/shed.

    Tools required:
  • Plyers

  • Selleys Gun

  • Masking Tape

  • Sikaflex - 227 Adhesive

    Parts Required
  • D-Pillar Trim - New is about $95, 2nd hand is about $25

  • Clips will cost about $2.70 each (From ford) x 4

  • Screws cost about $3.30 each (From ford) x 3

You might be able to take parts from the old one if you still have it.

1:
First, try to remove any clips which is still stuck in the holes with plyers. If the clips did not come with the trim you must buy them from ford. They just slide into place of the trim. The clips looks like an arrow with a base.

2:
The screws can be bought from ford as well but the nut is part of the D pillar trim which cannot be bought separt. You are most like to still have the nut attacted to the screw as this is where they tend to brake.
Apply sikaflex around and on the (3) screw/nut holes on the tailgate. Then apply around the (4) clip holes. The reason why you should apply to sikaflex so it gives it more support.

3:
Once this is done. Get the D pillar trim and line up the clip holes with the ones on the tailgate and insert them. Then get masking tape and wrap it around the trim and sticking it to the inside of the tailgate where the screw holes are. This is to make sure the trim has good contact with the sikaflex adhersive and also so it wont fly off while your waiting for it to dry while driving. But it is not recommended to drive for a couple of hours. ( Not sure how long the sikaflex adhersive takes to dry). Between 12-24 hours you can take off the masking tape.
