When I had my farimont engine in my ED I changed the airbox to EL and modified the snorkel to still flow in the top, I'll have to get some pics to show it off, I just sold the engine and intake to a mate who's now running it.

jdas, have a better look at the first photo's i posted. the idea is the higher pressure on the outside will help force air through the filter insted of having it sucked through from an as equal pressured side *Warning, Science Content* (im a nerd), it also helps because as i said, i found there is a pocket of cold air that comes in from beside the left headlight on that side. should be there on all the ef el body styles. (not sure about xh's, i think they are the late e series style)

and the holes are from the pre filtration section. . . . . . . .

all air on ef and els are sucked in through a snorkel to the bottom of the airbox... if all that series cut their holes in the airbox below the filter then it is still being filtered.. i am going to stick with a stock air filter as it filters the air better than the high performance ones (so i've heard). my car does get hot when idling at long traffic lights... but cools down quite quickly once moving again...

probably the same thing as the EF/EL 6 box, looks as though your having air sucked through the top.

thats all well and go but the temp in the engine bay will heat up in traffic and feed the intake hot air, when the car gets moving again it will get feed cold air. water temp has nothing to do with it

the car definately goes better especially wen its cold the throttle response is sharp. my mate has got a 5litre and on Friday night he said my car is so responsive and the acceleration is much better than his car.

I'm new to this stuff and I want to keep my car defect free. Is this a legal mod to do (in the eyes of the cops, not the law)?

dont believe so. they dont like exposed pods, scoops, vents, nos and engine parts outside the bay. so all above board. plus you can't really see the holes much, even in the day. just had my car serviced, three machanics looked in the engine bay and didn't see it, or if they did, said nothing

fiftyone on EA to ED filtered air is on the bottom not EF to BA filtered air is on the top. just in case a few people get confused with people drilling the tops on their airbox
