hey guys,

I have read on here and on Fordforums.com of an additive that you can get from ford that you put in your diff to cut out diff whine. Appearently its pretty common in AU series 1's. I droped my car off at ford this morning for the recall job, and they recon that it is not common at all and that there is no additive that they have or can put int to quiet them down.

Does anyone know what it is that they put in there to shut em up????

Cheers Guys

My AU1 forte had diff whine and this is what I used to stop it completely
Redline Heavy grade Shockproof Gear Oil - full synthetic 85W250
Any brand of gear oil that's really thick should do the job
Works a treat

The tickford XR6 AU1 which was built same time has no such whine or clunk either but I still use the same gear oil for best protection.

I also use Fuchs Lubricants (super gto 10w30 engine oil) and I rate them up there with royal purple, gulf western, amsoil, penrite and all the other top shelf brands.
It states on the bottle that you can leave the redline gear oil in for up to 400,000 km's

Not all the dealers stock it as it a Ford Motorsport product imported from USA but any good brand additive will work.I use Nulon in mine and change the diff oil every 100,000ks and no noise whine or clunk

you get it at ford its called friction modifier (i think) dont use the stuff thats for the older fords if its an irs ask for you just fill with lsd oil and put the little (50 ml) i think in but if it is irs they do wear mine 90k and got rebuilt they also do up the pinion nut a bit tighter as supposedly this is the problem

Is whine a sign of wear? Mine has whined ever since I got the new gears in, but im not really bothered by the sound.

Incorrect preload when they rebuilt the diff. Only cure now is to rebuild it again.

Our local Ford dealership buys the Holden additive off me, they have had better success with the GM Goodwrench additive than the Ford stuff. If you have trouble getting it let me know and i will get you some.
