|
|
I bought the AU series 2 xr8 snorkel from ford the other night, and tried to fit it up to my EF, there aint no way in hell that thing is going onto my airbox. It hits the heads and generally wont even get close. Is there something i am missing?
I ordered it using the part number off the Vehicle Modifications section |

| Funny that... The only time I have not seen it fit was on an EL and it was because the Thermos fans were too big and in the way... |

take out the top radiator hose
that helps a little....
and just force it on
put some elbow greese into it (after you first pop it on, it goes on easier when you take it off after that)
and yeh... then you'll have to cut a couple mills from the end of it and the corner of it ... |

The AU snorkel should not be recommended on this site to fit on EF and EL 6cyl falcons. Even Jim Mock said in an article on his website that the snorkel decreases performance because it is not shaped to the bonnet rubber.
I tried fitting a AU snorkel at the ford dealship and it just looked dodgy so i bought a EL GT snorkel for $55.20. It took approx 2min to fit. Went straight on and the screws line up exact. All the bends in the snorkel are exactly the same as the standard one.
I just laugh because probably 500 guys have got AU snorkels on their EF & EL's and don't realise the bonnet rubber is blocking the mouth of their snorkel. They say they use a chalk outline to check but I still believe after my little fitting experiment the mouth goes to far back past the radiator shroud.
Take it back to ford and ask for an EL GT snorkel.
Cheers Luke. |

This is the quote from Jim Mock website in one of the articles. Note the TE50 is another name for the AU XR8 snorkel.
Quote:
3® XR8 snorkles are good things - the custom filter also helps. The TE50 version is popular but incorrect fitting can reduce performance. The snorkel for each model is very carefully matched to the shape of the body and bonnet. Fitting the wrong one for your body style messes up the relationship. JMM will put you on the right track as to which one to use.
So all I have to say is that you need an EL GT snorkel for an EF&EL AND an AU xr8 SNORKEL for an AU falcon.
Cheers Luke. you might what to attach this quote to the mod article. |

Well I did not have any problems what so ever fitting mine my AU3 XR8 Snorkel all though I did re-align it to fit more forward. I even checked again the other day in regards to the recent issue that someone pointed out of the Rubber strip blocking the Hole and I found after putting my hand in their and closing the bonnet down that I could feel with my fingers that it wasn't getting blocked at all. |

Did you line it up with the original holes or drill new ones? |

I have an AU III XR8 snorkel on the EF XR6 and it fits perfect on the rubber seal. You can see on the top of the snorkel where the rubber sits on it. I agree that the ELGT would be a better option but my AU3 XR8 one fits like a glove. |

The ELGT and AU3 XR8 snorkles line up in exactly the same position (including the mouth) so I have NFI what Mr Mock is on about.

| the te50 is not another name for the xr8 snorkel. It's (funnily enough) the name for the snorkel fitted to the te50, and is different to the normal au xr8 one. I've got a te50 snorkel on my ef, i might have a look at it tommorow and see if it is restricted. |

yeah but it's the same size and shape as the AU XR8 snorkel. The only difference between the two is it doesn't have the tickford wings symbol? i think
cheers. |

Would i be better to cut my loses (i have somneone with an AUIII who wants my snorkel) and get an EL GT one? Does it definately fit straight onto a 6. I will take a photo of my setup tommorrow, so someone can look and see if i have mutant thermos (sorry, meant to say it hits the thermo fans as well) or a mutant head |

pop down to your local ford d/ship and take a look! ask them to pull out for you both the EL GT & AUIII XR intakes, and compare which is bigger! |

| I fitted one to my EF wagon, and it wasn't straiaght forward to do it properly. I had to remove some of the plastic on the radiator fan webs (stanley knife and file...Carefully), and trim and redrill the intake mouth. Its definitely not restricted, and the rubber seals. Running on gas you'd be hard pressed to pick the difference with a standard petrol setup. |
