How would you go disabling it ? Pull the bag off and dont connect the wire.
You will get air bag issuie light on dash thats all.
But depends what BEM you use AU or BA.
I would think if you disable it,just take it to ford tell them what youve done and they should be able 2 clear airbag warning light on dash.
Sounds like your AU came with one air bag ? You should get away with it.
Cant wait and see how it all goes, big job alot a fun and sore head i bet ? lol |

haven't given up lol... painting the kit cost alot more than expected and now doing up a eb2 for a mate... full ef engine and interior conversion for it so it'll be pretty good practice for this ... so yes this has been put on hold for now apart from fitting the rear doors, rear power windows and im on the lookout for some red/black ba xr seats... |

Well, to disable the airbag, you won't want to leave it disconnected. You will want to put a bridging resistor of about 2.2 to 2.9 Ohm across both of the airbag feeds so that the airbag module knows that there's something connected.
If you want to clear any airbag errors, buy yourself a clone ELM327 scantool from eBay and I can talk you through clearing the errors. Well, at least I know how to do this on BA airbag modules anyway, an AU module is still an unknown for me.

bit of an update...
so iv slowed the full conversion down.. also decided i wanted the Red XR interior (seats and door trims) and have realized most sellers sell seats and trims as a pack...
so for now iv started to mod my black xr door trims to fit the AU dash... hear is some progress...
this show the part iv had to cut out to allow the doors to close... also have removed the speaker grill
you can see in the center (and just to the right) of this image that there is two holes... one with a white plastic thread in it and the other with paint scraped of around it(from me trying to remove the white thread bit)
The white plastic bit had to be moved for the door handle to screw into...(from top to bottom) so im wondering if the AU3 doors have wholes to fit BA trims? as there are a few others i will have to move like the two at the bottom of the door trim... also wonder if S1 and S2 doors have the whole to move the plastic thread bits too?(hope that makes sense)
and theres two of the door closed...
Cheers Cam |

| a mate has recommended just using expandable foam stuff and taping of the front then sand it back and ill see how spraying it looks... i can cut the plastic away from behind the material and fold the material over the plastic to get a nice edge... |

never got around to playing with the center console but here is some progress...
made some speaker surrounds today... so this is pretty much one finished door trim (minus the extra power window switch...)

| I commend your efforts fourL6, that was quite a task you set yourself! What happened to the top half of the door near the a-pillar though? In previous pictures it wasn't cut off? Would have looked more flush but nevertheless still a top effort mate! Will be interested to see how the BA centre console fits if you go ahead. |

that part stuck out that far it just about covered the air vents so i cut it off ...
have now done both front doors...
Any idea how different the mounting points etc. are for the BA handbrake?
this is a pic of a AU one... couldnt find a BA one

Hey mate, sounds like afun project.
The handbrake has 3 bolts running horizontally through the bracket. It looks like the bracket on yours has the bolts going vertically down through it.
You may be able to put an AU airbag into the position the BA airbag sits in.. I haven't seen an AU one to know..
In terms of everything else.. provided the wiring remains all AU, then you shouldn't have a problem, do away with all the BA electrics and it should be a reasonably direct swap. As you've said retain the AU cluster (you can probably change the fascia but keep the mechanical side) Keep your heater etc..
To make the car 4 door power windows, you'll need to get the interior wiring looms out of a car that had this feature..
I hope this helps

iv got the ba power window switches working today and put a few extra mounting parts for the door in now... the passenger window was pretty easy i just used a multi meter to figure out what pin was open/closed when the switch was up/down or out... and then used a crimping kit to adapt the looms... the drivers 4 switch one wasnt that easy... id say because of the auto down feature... so iv just got the drivers window working of the rear right switch... iv also got the the rear window lock/unlock thing working (supply's 12 when of and 0 when on) so that will be used to power the rears (when i get around to purchasing the regs)

so today i pulled the misses BA fairmont apart and dummy fitted the center console... photos dont do it justice but you get the idea...
in the photos the AUs in neutral so you can see the whole center console will need to move towards the dash... will also have to cut back a bit of the white plastic around the gear shift and modify how the air hose parts connect to the dash...
i personally think the AU handbrake will look better and fit better into the center console that the BA...
