Is that written anywhere? Not immediately visible in the Workshop Manual unless I'm just searching on the wrong thing. Is it something from the User Manual instead?

here it is, i put it in a new thread so if people want to search for it they'll find it..

the bit about disabling it must be in the owners instructions though which i left in the car i installed the kit in... i'll photocopy and scan one next time i see one

That is both awesome and frightening.

Awesome because I've not seen it before, I can see now that BEM pin J2/4 is the Siren Trigger and pin J1/16 is the Bonnet Switch - two pins listed as 'Unused' in the Workshop Manual, but strangely had a Circuit and Wire Colour associated.

Scary - because if I am swapping BEM's to support Climate Control, it means I need to be aware of the Siren PIN requirements.

SO, the big questions now is, what to do about the BEM on a Dual Zone upgrade?

(a) Can my Black BEM be used and reprogrammed for Dual Zone operation OR

(b) Can a Green BEM that is normally used for Dual Zone be programmed to support a Siren?

In addition to that document I am aware of 0253TSB which talks about a fault in early BEMs and how to replace them, but also mentions that it was not valid for Black 'Alarm' BEMs.

The Black BEMS apparently have a 'Blue' ID and a 'Green' ID. Does anyone know what this ID is, since on looking at mine the sticker on it is 'white'.

While I'm researching elsewhere, I thought this bit of info might be of use to some of you:

Serviceable components in the ICC:

Low Series button Tune/Track: BA18T817A
Decal Low Series Temperature: BA18D557A
Decal Low Series Fan Speed: BA18D557B

This stuff is in a TSB that I was hoping would list the Part Numbers for various BEM versions - but no luck. There's also part numbers for the Air Register, Antenna Leads and Remote Key Receivers if anyone wants them. I just didn't think they'd be of interest.

i suspect this is why the newer alarm system is independant of the BEM

Mate, is there any chance you or anyone else might have access to some of these early BA BEM Part numbers and/or descriptions?

If not, I'm looking for any other way I can find out more information about 'Black BEMs', how to identify them and how to know what they can do.

If anyone is aware of any numbers to call at Ford for this then I'll do it. This could be a show stopper....

Er - this link might be bad news for this thread:

http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/ArticleDetail.aspx?ArticleID=41378&vf=2

A new car, WITH all the bits that I am looking to upgrade - resulting in cheaper payments?

Certainly, it's enough for me to go out and get some solid quotes. It's a serious option now at that price.

So I have to pay off my car AND a BF wreck?

Low WAF that one I'm afraid.

That and BFMkII has:

(1) The brakes I'm putting on INCLUDING beter rear brakes
(2) The Climate Control I'm upgrading to.
(3) 18" Wheels (I had considered them)
(4) Still works with the CAPA box I'm getting

There's a cutoff point where the combination of trade-in+discount needs to get to so as to make the payments cheaper than my current payments, and I know what it is - and I've been upfront about that to the dealer, so we'll see if he can do it.

I would need a black-bem with Green ID for this to work as I don't think the green BEM from a BA will support my car alarm.

Alas, they couldn't make the cutoff. The pricing was very good, but the trade-in was lousy, so no deal. They came pretty close to tell you the truth, and had this been 2 years into the future we probably would have struck a deal. But not this time.

Which means we will now return you to your normal viewing schedule...

I've just been reading the Fairlane/G220 ISG Training document. Short read, but wow, what an eye opener. Gave me some additional clues regarding the Mirror Dip during Reverse research as well.

But of interest in this thread is that I found this cool image of a HIM all opened up, showing the motors that drive the HVAC.

Check it out.

Latest update:

ICC Upgrade order has been placed with FTG, and the kit has arrived today. On unpacking I noticed that I didn't get a Multifunction Switch for the AUTO lights on bit, but a quick call and they are forwarding that bit.

My next step will be to photo-journal all the bits and plonk that up here.

Once that's done I plan to spend some time comparing some of the Dash Loom connectors.

As mention above I have a Black BEM which means I have an alarm. I'll have to see firstly where the Alarm is hooked to the BEM by means of the removable pins on J1 and J2, but the Ignition and Power lines are manually spliced in behind the fuse box which I'll have to find (and do again).

Let the games begin....

Probably includes a 2-year subscription as well.

They are going for USD 2k to 2.5k with subscriptions.

When I get stuff done on my car to turn on the Dual-Zone I'll capture messages where I can from their IDS/PDS. (Parameter Reset, CTS reteach, HIM change from MCC to ACC etc)

Since I'll be retaining my instrument cluster, I'll be keeping the Trip Computer in the cluster, and gaining another one on the ICC display. I was figuring I could convert the Cluster display to police mode, and still retain all my other settings on the ICC display.

I'd read in one of the FF threads that Police Mode - which gives a live LCD readout of speed - takes away some of the other displays (Not sure which ones, but it's one of the range or avg speed or avg/live consumption readouts that I use from time to time). So it might be fun to have my police-mode cake and eat my range/avg data too!

Yeah so your keeping the low series cluster are you?
Let me know if you want high series - as i have brand new high series fpv and xr clusters here

The high series cluster ha stwo screens, one has teh outline of teh car and tells you what doors are open and odometer etc, the other says what gear your in.
Wonder how you will go with the brightness on the cluster as if your converting to dul zone the high series cluster has brightness control on it up and down, where low only has the one button

Interested to see your results

Yes, that was the intention.

The Cluster sends the brightness in the same CAN message whether you've got a high or low cluster. I've checked it between my Low Series and the missus' SX. The difference in the operation is as follows:

(1) High Series: Press one of the two buttons, and the brightness depends on the duration. You can, if you're quick, set it to one of 255 levels. (It's a single-byte 2-hex char value)

(2) Low Series: When you press the only button, it rotates between one of 4 brightness settings.

To be honest, (2) is all I'd ever want.

I have a Manual so wouldn't be able to take advantage of the PRND display. In fact, the low series look to have the same PRND by the look of it, but it's off to the left (in the shadows - sorry, Toy Story 2 is geting played over and over to 2yo...)

The only other thing is the low washer-left jewel in the bottom right corner of the LH LCD display on High Series clusters only. This requires a High Series BEM as there's a line from the BEM, via the Dash Harness, through the Engine Bay LHS Harness, to a washer level sensor on the washer bottle. I haven't checked if I've got a sensor on mine but I suspect not. But the line should be on all harnesses as there doesn't appear to be a part number that says 'with washer level sensor'..

To be honest, I would rather have the 2 x trip meters. Today, on my drive from Newey to Sydney, I was keen to see my avg consumption and either range or real-time econ at the same time. This is the first long drive since I've done the CAPA flash.

I guess if I ever get a CarPC off the ground I'll be able to show the Washer Level and everything from the trip meter at once since I can just pluck those messages off the CAN bus - but I've oviously got my hands full for awhile and don't see that happening any time soon.
