Well, some success.

I made up a switcheable test rig for my lab harness, which takes as inputs a GND (pin 16) and IGN (pin 12) normally wired to the RCM Module pins , and then passes those through so that they can be presented on the c189a plug as normal.

The switchbox then has 2 additional outputs that can be used on VID pins20 and 21, and can be switched manually to IGN, GND or NC.

With this done I set the switches to IGN / GND and hooked it up again. For awhile I got nothing out of the RCM and thought I'd busted it. I checked all the wiring and everything was fine - but there was no 12V on the IGN input. So I checked the fuse - and yep, I'd blown it. My guess is I touched the two inputs together inadvertently and popped it. Swapped it out, and away we finally go.

That DTC then disappeared completely all on it's own. Fantastic!

After that, I think I'd like to do a bit more proof-testing, to the point where I'm now pretty keen to get the factory airbag diagnostic terminators so I can confirm the operation of all sensors without the need to have the airbags hooked up, and to get into a situation where I can test with the front crash sensor connected.

More to come on all of that.

Hmm. Something funny going on with indexes on this Forum. I am currently on 'Page 4 of 3' on this thread.

Is it just me? I've even closed down ie and restarted again.

Yeah it's been happening a bit of late. The admins know of it.

Doesn't cause any trouble, unless you were on page 3 and wanted to read 4, it wouldn't be available to click on.

OK, getting back on track. A bit of an update:

(1) Side Bolsters have been retrimmed. Pics attached.

(2) Headrest Foam has been modified and now fills out better. But leather is damaged beyond repair. Is in at the moment, but considering options - including the DVD headrest option.

(3) Front seats are in.
(a) Passenger side is on the BF Fairlane base but it has no power. Just tilt and lumbar for now. The airbag line is terminated with the 7Ohm resistor out of the old seats.
(b) Drivers seat is on the old 4-way base. But since it is power tilt I have no tilt at the moment. Life goes on.

June Longweekend is now my target swap-the-looms out weekend.

I have acquired a high-series Park Module and Sensors, so will look at bolting that to the Parcel Shelf at the same time.

I am currently uhming and aarhing over the RCM module now. Do I hack the loom to make the BF RCM work? Or do I consider getting a BA Type B RCM? We'll see how long it takes me to swap looms and I'll think about it more then.

Well, I didn't say I'd given up completely. We'll see. It's more like 80% BF - 20% BA at the moment. A bird in the hand.....

Those headrest covers look like they are around $100 or more - but I haven't found any pricing for Black Leather BF fairlane headrest. That just makes DVD headrests $100 more compelling.

It might almost be time to find someone that can do real part lookups.... unless respectibly priced FG Black Leather Headrest Screens become available on the market....

Excited more like it. Been that way all week.

I have been able to clear a few DTC's in the BF RCM on the lab bench - namely the front and side airbag and pretensioner open circuit DTC's - by installing 2R2 and 2R7 resistors into the plugs. I also cleared the Module-Diagnostic-Monitor-GND-Circuit-Open by hooking a GND line to the RCM module case.

But I can't clear the drivers-seat-position and both side buckle circuit fails, nor the front crash sensor fault since I don't have the RHS engine bay loom. Inserting resistors to the Buckle lines changes the DTC to 'Short Circuit to GND' failures. So perhaps I need a higher resistor there, but not that worried about them to be honest.

So on that front all systems are still pretty much go.

I had tried to put the PAM onto the bench to test, but then realised it doesn't get power unless Reverse is active, and late at night I couldn't be bothered figuring out which set of pins I need to bridge to activate that one. But that's certainly not a show stopper either.

I was going to get started tonight but the missus works till midnight. I probably still will to be honest, I'll just have to feed the kids macca's and let them crawl all over me while I work.

Doesn't help that I picked a V8 weekend too. I guess the TV will be on in the shed all weekend.....

Uhoh. The Antenna Module is different between SWB and LWB Sedans. Hmm.

OK, had to research why, and this also explains another query I had when I first got the looms.

SWB and Ute's use the same wiring connector (C368) to connect the Antenna Amp Module. It is a 2-pin connector and carries the Power for the Amp AND the Rear Demist. The Amp then has two connections to the rear window - one for the demist, one for the Aerial.

LWB, Wagons and Territories have a different connector (C367) with a single pin. This carries only the Antenna Power. A SEPARATE line connects directly to the Demist. This is the line that I could not identify when I mapped the looms out a few weeks ago!

So my BF Fairlane loom won't work with my BA Sedan Antenna Amp unless I chop up some connectors.

I'm currently investigating options. I suspect a Wagon Module is the most likely choice for me, but Wagon or LWB Modules are still an option till I know better.

OK, so the Territories and LWB cars have the Antenna on the roof. Turns out this is an active Antenna, so receives power. No separate module.

The wagon, however, has a separate Amp Module like the sedans. I can't imagine it would be a unique module - but the workshop manual says it has the same connector as the LWB and Territory!? I better double check.

I also found an interesting diagram showing how the SWB and Utes pass the Heated Backlight/Demist through the Antenna Module, but the Wagons and LWB do not. Those that pass the signal through the Antenna Module also appear to require some sort of Inductor. I'm not sure what that's for - probably to suppress something. Maybe to suppress the power in the backlight to stop it affecting the antenna? If that's the case, why does the Wagon have no inductor? Odd.

I'm wondering why the heck they made this so hard.

So Wagon and Fairlane/LTD have the antenna glass on a side window?

Where the rest have combined antenna/demist rear windows ?

Yes, the inductor would be there to remove noise from the circuit for the antenna.

Nope. LWB + Territory have the black active Antenna on the roof - no separate Antenna Amp. There is a separate Demist Line.

SWB + Ute have combined Demist/Antenna Amp.

Wagon has separate Demist Line and Antenna Amp - and I believe has the Antenna on a side window?
