Hey, I keep getting a flat battery in my car, (XF 4.1 EFI) and the volts gauge is always low. I've placed a multimeter across the battery, which has concluded that a) the alternator is charging properley, and b) there doesnt appear to be a power drain. Now I may not be correctly measuring things but I think I am. What other things should I be checking?
Cheers, Gab |

what charge voltage are you getting at idle?
how old is your battery? |

The battery is pretty old I spose, it was in the car when I got it, and I got it about 8 months ago, but the same issue seems to happen when I use the battery out of dad's Sigma, and that battery never has a problem in his car, (although that battery is very old, and we used to have it in an XF and it went flat every weekend) I'm getting around 13.2V at idle with both batterys.

so something is draining it then.
just to make sure, disconnect the battery for a couple of days.
then when you next start it, it will either fire up (which would indicate the battery is being drained slowly) or it won't, which would mean the battery is crook.
13.2 seems slightly low, what charge are you getting at 1200rpm?
also check the voltage at the alternator.
you might be getting a voltage drop. |
