Today I had my EF Auto serviced, no problems there apart from the rear bush, but the guy recon's there is excessive end play in the motor crankshaft.
I have noticed a noise for the last 30-40,000 K but only at idle and then nothing that concerned me. How much play is excessive and should I be concerned about this comment? If so how long will it last and will it go in a hurry? The cars only done around 200000, nothing like the 900000 taxi's do.

Tony.

I got under it after work and the front pulley can move 5-6 mm front to rear. The book states 0.1 to 0.2 mm throw and the servicable limit is 0.3mm. I think it is time for a new motor.
