|
|
Hi all,
My 1998 NL Fairlane is still stalling. Its a 4L six cylinder, straight petrol only. Won't stall arond town (50 km/h zones), but can stall after braking in an 80km/h zone for traffic lights or turning corners. My dad thinks it may be a fuel starvation problem. I have had the throttle body cleaned out, cleaned the ISC unit with alcohol, maybe it is a computer, or the alternator. If anybody knows, please reply ASAP The car sometimes feels like its going to die. One time, it took three turns to start it up again after stalling at a set of traffic lights. |

I take it you have serviced it, changed plugs, set timing etc, and inportantly have set the idle correctly. Also worth checking the TPS voltage.
It sounds to me like the ISC/IAC as this is primarily responsible for stopping the engine from stalling, and it normally does it well. Could be the EEC itself as I have heard that the IAC controller in the EEC can easily fail, but I would first start with exchanging the IAC and see what happens. |

| Pardon my ignorance, but what does IAC stand for? Yes, new plugs have been fitted, and has been serviced every 10,000 kms, will be due for a new service in about 3,000 kms. |

If its a suspected fuel Starvation maybe. Just hunch but have you replaced the Fuel filter with the Service that you recently done Also could be the Fuel regulator is on the way out, sort of explains the hard starting and on again off again scenarios you have. |

| Yep, had the fuel filter replaced at last service (170,000kms), due for a new service at 180,000 kms. So the fuel regulator, eh? |

It does not sound like fuel starvation as that is usually more noticable at high rpm and fine at low to idle.
IAC = Idle air controller, or ISC = Idel speed controller (both the same thing). |
