G'day again guys,

Another question for you. At the moment I have a set of 3way Pioneers TSA1670S, and a set of 2 way Pioneers TSG1640R (pictures below). The 3 way's are in the doors and the 2 way's are in the rear. Now, I'm finding the sound abit ordinary after having them for a while. Would I be taking a step up by buying a set of JBL GTO-626E's and a set of JBL GTO-636E's? Any help would be appreciated!

TSG1640R

TSA1670S

JBL GTO-626E

JBL GTO-636E

Thanks Guys! icon_smile.gif

From what i can gather, i'd move the existing 3 ways to the rear, and purchase a good set of splits for the front. Perhaps look at amplifying them too if the budget permits!

Do it right the first time, that way ur not always hungry for more!

I've had both JBL and the pioneer and found both to OK.

The JBL have a good midrange and high, handle plenty of power but do not have very good bottom end. This wasn't a problem for me because i was running a sub but if your not running one, they would not be my choice.

The pioneer had a typical american sound, pronounced bass and highs with a relaxed midrange, which is ok, but i like smooth clear vocals that stand out and they were a little relaxed for me tastes.

I do not think you will benefit from changing from one of these to the other.

ive got jbl 3ways on the back shelf running of the headunit(kenwood 50x4) and they are crystal clear. jbl is my choice for quality sound reproduction and there only $230 but im sure youd get them cheaper if you paid cash

Sorry guys, it was late at night when I did this thread. The Pioneer's are hooked up to a 4 channel amp. The most I can spend is about $240. I had the three ways in the rear once before, though i found that they appeared tinny in sound due to the rear window reflecting the sound. So a couple of months back, I put the three ways in the door and the two ways in the rear, and I found it sounded alot better. Now after listening to it for a while, I am finding it abit borring.

Yeah I'm running 2 12 inch subs as well, ummm I'm finding with the pioneers as well, that they seem not to be able to handle the mid bass well enough. I know thats why ya have subs to take care of some of the bass, though it does'nt have that tightness about it, when it comes to mid range. One thing that I noticed like some one else mentioned, the vocals do seem to be quiet on the aspect.

The G series for pioneer is poo. Its their budget series. The A series ain't bad.

I'd put the As in the back and buy some E series splits. Their Magnesium cone gives more of a neutral tone as opposed to the 'americaness' of the A series.

Is the E series yellow in colour?

the 4" are yellow but the others are grey.

The ones you're talking about are part of the C-series. They are awesome. Thats what i have up front in mine and I couldn't be happier...pity they retail around $500. I got mine ex-demo for 300 and that was considered extremly lucky.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time!

I ended up buying the JBL after giving them a good listening to. I found them to be great in the vocal dept. And after I had given the amps a good tune, they truely came alive! after listening to one of my discs (phil collins) as a test for a drum solo, damn I'm impressed! the drum solo helped tune the amps, to bring the lows (kick drum) up with the mids (snairs, symbols) Ideal tuning tool as I have found out.
