Hey hey hey,
So while my computer has been crashed, i've acheived a few cool mods. Now that i'm back online i can share them with the fordmods community.
Firstly, after some research, i replaced my front suspension that i wasn't really happy with.
Now its great, i love it. Its nice to have travel again. I used pedders short body struts, and a custom pedders spring. I stayed at the same height, but gained suspension travel, and replaced the bumpstops while i was there.
And now onto the headlight conversion...
To answer Froudey, i modified the BA reflector and surround to fit inside the EB case. To fit the whole BA light would be way too much work, and would probably look funny.
Now, as alot of you may know, BA lights aren't that cheap, even EBAY is quite dear. Wreckers seem to think they are made of gold also, and you have to be quick to get a good deal.
I remembered seeing a smashed taxi at Boss Wrecking, and checked, yep, has headlights that were usable. Quite smashed, but usable. So i got them for the princly sum of $20, and gladly took them home for the iminent conversion.
But unfortuantly, i nearly bit off more than i could chew on repairng the bad headlight. One reflector needed alot of repair, i sat and downed alot of beer and glued it back together peice by peice.
Once ready, i got my s**t together, this is an obvious before shot.
Front pulled off
Then the EB lights are pulled apart
Cutting to shape was alot of trial and error, and i finally got it
I then refitted the headlight to the car to get installation adjustments right
Once right, they were retained in the cases, and then pulled back apart to paint the case inside black
The, once the surround is trimmed, it gets installed inside, i chose to sikaflex the surround in, and then i painted the seal rubber, and reinstalled the headlight glass
Lights on
And some s**t car park shots
Wank away lads...... LOLOLOL.
I really like it, its exactly the kind of front end change i was after.
Hope ya'll enjoy.
Andrew. |

Thanks guys,
RE the black inside indicators, yes i will be doing this next weekend when i get some time. It was actually my misses that suggested it. I have a spare set to play with, i will pull them apart and paint the inside wall, and the bottom black, and i reckon that'll finish it nicely.
LOL at froudey, yeah it was dellboy's car that inspired me, and i actually stumbled on the photos via google when i found it!
I really like it man, and i'm thinking of maybe an ED fairmont grill??? |

| I think they were $450. I've never paid that much for struts before, but it really drives nice now. To be that low but still have travel now is great. |

Great JOB!!!!!
What did you use to cut the BA lense?
And how did you set up the adjustment for the lense?
Is the light output better, worse, or the same?
I will be doing my conversion soon, amongst other things.

Thanks Boxcar Brother!
With all the cutting i just carefully used those ultra thin discs for 4" grinders.
With adjustment, when you pull apart, you'll notice on the inside of the smaller reflector there is a screw hole, i used a 50mm screw, through this and into the back of the lense, along with 7 1/4 inch nuts as spacers, as there is a gap of about 20-25mm.
Then the eb reflector adjusters had to be trimmed on an angle to meet up with the reflecot, and glued onto the BA lense back. I used a no name glue i scored from work a while back, not sure what it is, but it worked. This may be trial and error, but this is why i did all adjusting before i assembled, so i don't have to do it again, just incase it don't hold perfect.
To aid in holding this, i used sikaflex 11fc adhesive, smeared all around the adjusters were i had glued.Pretty sure i used the EB adjuster rods, but cut down a little.
As for light quality, man the EB lights just DON"T COMPARE.
The BA lenses are so much better design, even cut slighty to fit they are still very good.
Any other quireies regarding this tasty mod, just ask:) |

Thanks mate.
next mods are probaly going to be the EF mirrors, and i'm thinking of doing somehting with my front bumper. Not sure what, as i want to retain the sleeper image, but the front bar sucks on these, it isn't even as low as the sills, and it tucks in too quickly.
I've been draiwng up ideas on what i can make.
Thanks for the comments fella's |

Great job, really adds to the custom look of the car, without going past a sleeper look.
Your (PIMP LTD) right about the bumper thou, just needs something to tie the lights back in to the whole design of the front. I was thinking more like some spotties (of the same design - painted black surrounds) mounted to a 'light bar' that mounts behind the number plate thus putting the spotties at the height of your factory lights.
(I hope that makes sense LOL, if not I'll try to make up a pic.) |

Yeah man that makes sense. Sounds like it could work.
I also had the idea of cutting my spare front bar below the grey srtip, and my EF Fairmont bar in the same spot, and putting the 2 together, then fitting the ghia fog's the the EF bottom half. So i'd effectivly have an EF mont bar, but i'd retain the grey strip that goes with the rest of the car, which i plan to keep.
I'll try do a chop later
Thoughts? |
