got my wade 1004-14 cam in, its got a rough as guts idle, mechanic reckons its the computer trying to adjust to the lack on intake manifold vacuum, would resetting the computer help this at all? its fine after a couple of minutes, but its rough before that.
He adjusted the idle screw up a bit, and he seems to think that the computer senses this, then tries to slam the revs back down to much and causes it to stall sometimes. Any ideas? |

Sounds like pretty good advice from the mechanic. Definately reset the ECU but i doubt this will fix the idling porblem.
Some people have had success by having a unichip fitted and tuned, others have not had any success at all. |

i've got a stage 2 crow in mine - the idle isn't exactly anything fantastic, and never will be - the computer will need to 'learn' the new cam as such - reset the base idle if you can, let it learn, and then you may have to up the idle screw slightly until you reach a happy medium with the idle - thats what i've had to do with mine. now it doesn't stall at the lights anymore!  |

| its fine once warmed up a little, but when i first start the car it struggles a bit, it really hunts in the idle |

| if the base idle has been reset correctly, then have a go at upping the idle screw until it idles ok - but don't expect it to be anything like it was before! |

as in before/after/during? lol me mechanic is scotty (scotts840) so maybe i shouldn't trust dodgy taxi mechanics?! hehe nah hes done a good job - we set the base, and as we were playing around, upped it slightly as we were working, to get it right - its running better than it ever has now |

How long have you given it to learn the new cam?
IT can take upto 1000kms in some cases for it to be noticably smoother, altho most will learn it in about 500-800kms.
Its a trade off with lumpy cams, lumpy idles.  |

usually the 114 is perfectly fine idle wise, so my guess is the ECU trying to relearn.
Give it a while and if it doesn't get better then look for problems.
I have a 1004 110 in mine and idle on petrol is useless... but good ol' LPG loves it  |

set yah base idle up to about 400 when its cold and then it should jump to 600-700 when its warm.
or learn to two foot it. |

| Don't adjust the base idle you'll give yourself no end of grief (I know trust me been there done that) It will learn how to idle after about 200kms, have you upped the base ignition timming? if so how far? too much can cause it to hunt. |

| i havnt drivin it all that much since i got the cam so ill give it a bit of time, but no i havnt played with anything. I have reset the ECU, and the mechanic said he upped the idle a little (once warm it sits at bout 6-700 rpm) but didnt wanna take it up any further. Ill give it a few weeks and see how it goes. |

I dont mind if its lumpy, but i wanna be able to start it in the morning without having to hold it at 1000rpm for 2 minutes before i can let it idle, or put it in gear without it stalling! Gonna clean my idle valve and replace my plugs/leads tomorrow see if that helps it a bit as it was misfiring a little before i got the cam in, as of tomorrow i hopefully will have my P's so it will get a fair bit of driving tomorrow to get the ECU used to the cam if thats the problem.
