Fuel economy is good when you are driving long distances... You dont want a tank to disapear when you are only cruising along to a destination.
I see on a regular basis 5L/100km whilst travelling along the freeway. I travelled from Perth to Exmouth which is about 1300km, 2 people in the car with boot and back seat loaded and only used roughly 115L... The total trip, 3000km, ended up averaging 10L/100.
Somewhere around the 8s is pretty normal for country trips, but it depends on load and weather... |

We're interested in power, that's why we have Falcon's. |
Anybody who doesn't have an unlimited supply of money.
What sort of meaningless statement are you trying to make? Our world has a finite supply of fossil fuel and the better economy people can get, the better. Especially on the highway when you enjoy a cruise, not a pleasureable thrash around the twisty's where power (oh, braking and cornering, usually missing from non sports cars) are something to enjoy. |

Yes, I'm s**t you.
Trust me, if I had the room (and could justify the expense) I'd have two cars, a seriously raised turbo diesel 4WD and a real sports car. In the real world, I need to tow (sometimes 2 tonnes) and I want the best possible economy. A 4WD is out of the picture because they're dangerous for everyday driving, an real sportscar such as an R32 Skyline GTR is out of the question because they can't tow my 1 tonne ski boat. So I have about the best possible compromise, an LPG powered six cyl taxi. I used to have an R32 and I sorely miss it, not only did it have power but it could a) stop (big discs and 4 piston fronts and 2 piston rears), and b) get around corners (the suspension design is phenomenal).
So, could you suggest a better car to suit my needs? It must not be wrong wheel drive and I dont care about running costs (well not significantly) if I'm thrashing the car or having fun, I do care about running costs in mundane operation such as cruise on the highway or puttering along around town.
Oh, trust me, I wouldn't be driving a Hyundai if I didn't have the above needs. I'd drive something with better economy that was built by a company with better engineers and QC than american car companies, something like a Honda Civic sedan or Nissan Pulsar
There's nothing worse than a person who stereotypes particular people based on the car they drive, except for ricers. |

BOZZ, I'm not going to tell you what you should drive, that's your decision. There's no need to get defensive mate, I wasn't bagging anyone, just expressing my lack of enthusiasm for watching my fuel guage. I drive my Falcon because I enjoy it, if I feel like giving her a thrash, I'll do it. If I feel like cruising, I'll slip it into top gear and cruise. If it costs me an extra $5-$10 at fill-up time, I don't care because I drive for the pleaseure, safety, comfort and performance, not to monitor how much fuel I use. Anyway, who says you can't hook a tow bar up to a GTR? |

Anything around the 9L/100 kms on the highway is expected of a car this size (petrol only). Anything lower than 9L is exceptional.
Around town is different - It will vary on tyre size, engine size, exhaust modifications, general driving habits and load.
Average around town for me is 13.4L/100 kms. The range will go down in slow city traffic, but climb slowly when cruise control is used on quiet stretches of road. I have no modifications.
Petrol type doesn't matter to me - I just use unleaded, and lucky I filled up yesterday - as petrol went up 20 cpl this afternoon - was $1.069 this morning, then hit $1.269 this afternoon. |
