Cost up until now... Um, I havnt realy done much to it lately, other than getting it engineers cert for the turbo set up ( which it passed with flying colours icon_biggrin.gif ), wasted a good 500 on crappy dyno tunes in various shops, a new dizzy, ignition module, fuel pump... so another 500 or so there... made up a 5in cold air intake pipe, that cost a wopping $25... oh and the Wolfs hand controller died, new one cost $270. Also made up some heat shielding over the turbo and mounted the batter on the other side of the eng bay...

Here's the cold air pipe, $25 from bunnings... Ive finished the wheel arches off with EF inner guards which cover up everything for a nice stock look

Heres the turbo/manifold/wategate while I was making it up ( note the very skanky welding prior to grinding it up and painting icon_redface.gif )

Yep, fully legal...

What the engineer wanted to see was...

Intercooler solidly mounted, tidy standard looking pipe work
Intercooler not lower than cross members
Quiet exhaust... it has only one muffler but is fairly quiet
Heat shields over turbo/ protecting brake master cyl
All wiring standard looking
Non adjustable wastegate ( no boost controller )
Battery securely mounted using standard guage wiring or better
and there was other stuff he was going on about that i forget now..

Basically as long as its tidy and looks fairly factory you shoudnt have any major issues... he was accually very impressed which I was pleased about... I was totally sweating while he looked over it... and under it

Is that the stock cast manifold with a flange welded on for the turbo? Did you do that yourself? What welding equiptment was used to make the manifold? It doesn't look pretty in that pic, but it was functional! I'm sure it looks rather sexy finished!

This is so awsome, it's really inspiring! Wish i had the cash to hurry up and finish my turbo torana off.

Cheers

Yeah its the stock manifold... I cut off the lower outlet section, grinded out all the runner partitions and blocked it off with a stainless steel plate section, then I cut a hole in the side and welded a 3in 90deg steam pipe with a flange on top.

Yeah looks dodgy and nasty but painted up it looks more presentable, though the welding is still visably lumpy... but it flows very well.

Tools I used... a basic arc welder, grinder and some drill attached grinder bits

congratulations Chef

Im amazed that it passed an engineers certificate - not having a crack at your setup but because i thought they were so strict and that emissions tests were impossible to pass!

Congrats

What are the laws surrounding fitting a turbo?

Wow! Doesn't sound like it would be too hard to replicate your zorst manifold! Definatly a cheaper alternative to getting a custom made manifold from a zorst shop. I got a quote for the zorst for my torana's turbo setup, 3" off the turbo, going into 2.5 and a 2.5 straight thru muffler, about $600ish. More for stainless or to goto 3". Not sure if i can fit 3" around the diff yet.

Did you replace your cat with a better flowing item? what's the size of the rest of your zorst system?

Cheers

Yeah, I put a 3in stainless cat. At the moment its the 3in off the turbo, into 3in cat then into a 2.5in mandrell bent Lukey "off the shelf" system, just the one muffler at the diff. Its nice and quiet but I plan on upsizing it soon... thinking of 3.5in off the cat, into a dynomax muffler and whatever I can fit over the dif... maybe twin 3in pipes over the diff, or twin 2.5 like the APS xr6t system... in stainless too
