Ok all you mod crazy people, aprox how much would it cost to upgrade a fairmont to a ghia? (putting in the woodgrain and chrome bits + leather seats)
Would it be worth saving a bit of dosh on the car by getting a fairmont, and making it ghia yourself? Or would it be cheaper just going right into ghia.
I know prices vary etc. and you can pick up good deals... but, aprox overall, what do you guys rekon? |

I also would just get a ghia, that is what im planning on after school.
I mean wood grain isn't cheap it retails for $450 at Ford and wreckers don't exactly have a large flow of it, plus all the b adging the seats are expensive, Gear knob... Better of pitching in another 2k and buying a ghia |

Yerp, i was gonna say this too!
I mean, a few prices for bits out a ghia are:
Center wood gear shift surround $450
Gear shifter $400 at least these days
LSD/3.45 conversion (u know u want it) ~1k i think? (Never done it, dunno)
Engine, well you wouldnt change it, but your get ticky spec on EFII and EL ghias, its a nice extra even if its jack s**t difference lol!
Leather seats would have to be sencond hand and youd pay anywhere from 500-1500 depending where you get them and condition, then you have door trims onto of that, at least another 500 from wreckers.
I think you get the picture, get the ghia 1st time around - I sure as hell would if I were ya. |

Righty,
* Exterior :
- Door / bumper moulds with chrome striping
- Painted Ghia grille (unpainted EL Fairmont grilles are so UN-COOL hehe)
- Ghia 15 X 7 rims
- Ghia badging
* Interior :
- Leather seats
- Leather wrapped steering wheel
- Leather wrapped handbrake handle with chrome button
- Leather wrapped gear selector with chrome button
- Woodgrain gear selector surround
- Door trims with leather pad inserts and woodgrain inserts
- Door trim door cortesy lamps
- Rear door trim map pockets
- Chrome door handles
- Chrome gear selector stalk
- Carpeted kick panels
- Premium sound
- PAB (If yours is already not fitted with one)
* Engine bay / mechanical :
- Tickford head
- 3.45:1 LSD
- SSPS actuator
- Ghia ECU
- Green (aka high series not to be confused with fairlane) BEM
That's all that I can think of at the moment - of course there were options for the V8, tickford suspension and wheels package - pretty sure everything has been mentioned in this thread.
In short, it would cost you a bit to do a *PROPER* conversion...but given you have a fairmont, at least you don't need to add climate control, trip computer, rear elec windows etc - everything is relatively 'bolt on' - not 100% on the BEM though.
btw - what setup are you referring to Righty - EF or EL ?
Cheers,
Steve |
