AVI codecs are a pain in the a**. So many versions...

I had a reasonable amount of success just downloading DIVX player and all the s**t it comes with. It's freeware.

Still had a few AVIs that wouldnt play... downloaded Hplay or something like that... havent had any dramas since.

The so called "every AVI codec you'll ever need" packs are s**t.

hey bowsaw,

download this program, it's called GSpot.

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/GSpot252b01.rar

Once downloaded installed it on to your hdd and open it.

go to file-> open

browse to where that .AVI is is and double click on it

once done the program will tell you what codec is required to play the vid properly.

obviously when you know what codec it is then google it and download it

hope that helps
