There's a few other tech docs around about boxing a pod filter, but I thought that buying hose and extra clamps really wasn't really nessacary, so I decided to tackle boxing my pod filter using all the stock parts. And lucky me, it worked!
Parts Required
- Pod Filter (Perferably K&N)
Tools Required
- Flathead Screwdriver
- Tin Snips / Stanley Knife
1. Unclip and remove top part of air box, chuck you standard air filter aside.
2. Unbolt the 4 bolts on the tube that goes through the box, they are located on the outside.
( The corner one might be a bit annoying - I got it off with some plyers instead.)
Once they are unbolted you can remove the inner tube.
3. Cut the tube you've removed about half size using the tin snips, if its too short for the pod to fit properly you can cut further down later.
4. Put the now cut tube back into the box, and bolt it in so it stays in place.
5. Now here's the fun part. Fit the pod filter over the air box tube inside the box.
It may be a bit annoying but keep pushing it in until its on completely on the tube, with no gaps. If you're having trouble fitting the pod in the box, pull it upways to tilt it. If this doesn't work, you might have to cut the tube a bit shorter.
6. Tighten the clamp on the pod filter so its nice and tight on the tube, so it won't be able to move.
7. Done! You've now got a boxed pod filter. Take the top part back to your car, put it on, clip it down and crank the engine to hear the sweet sounding filter.
If you have trouble getting the box to clip in with the bottom part of the box or the intake tube, you may have to repeat step 5 to make sure the four bolts are completely down and flat.
Edit - If you have problems with the pod staying attatched to the intake tube and have don't want to cut the tube any shorter, you can put the tightening ring around the neck to hold it on stable or if that fails just drill two screws through it to hold it in, it will go through the rubber easy.

Also ive gotta an airbox question.
Does the EF airbox lid fit the base of an EB airbox. i would like to modify this to fit better than the stock lid on eb-ed.

| I'll get some pics of the finished result tomorrow, but basically it has a stock appearance now (sounds awesome though). I'm not 100% about the airbox lid fitting the EB but I think if you got the whole thing, bottom & top of box and snorkel, you should be able to. If the EBs have 3" intake pipe? Anyway its pretty simple mod but if you did need help I'm in SE suburbs, and if you haven't yet bought the pod, grab one of the new K&N 'inverted' pod filter, they sound absolutely awesome and I'd love to see how it sounds on a Falcon. |

Pre-EF (i.e. EB) air boxs are different to EF-AU ones, Pre-EF the hose to the throttle body goes from the lower section so the air enters the top, were EF-AU air enters lower section and leaves through the top lid, so wouldn't be compatiable.
I think Pre-EF V8's may be the same/similar to EF-AU's but I know with the I6's it is different!
Guess doing your method anyone with EL/AU needs to get an EF air box lid (seem to be rare now) so that they have the funnel tube thingo inside! |

You know it actually takes your power away and doesn't gain anything.
If your goin to bother doing that, cut a 3" hole under the both and run 3" pipe/hosing to the front bar to get some ram-air induction going or your downgrading your airflow otherwise. |

fuzion -
i did this post after seeing the demand of people wanting to know how to box their pods and i thought this would be a simple way to do it. This isnt a debate of panel vs. pod, and theres plenty of threads for that so go post in there, im sure people have made their decision of pod or panel already before looking up this post. |

| As far as piping to the front bar, if you can be stuffed it probably would be a good idea. I'm not sure if this mod would work on the EA-ED box, best thing is to open it up and see what the intake tube is like in there. I'm still yet to get my Tickford snorkel to complete my intake. |

You've got it backwards bruv. There's a potential loss of power if it is not boxed! That's because it is getting hot air and hot air is nto as good as cold air as cold air particles or what ever are more compact and so more air is getting in to the engine and all that.Also keeps the engine temps down I guess?
But when you box the filter you need to ensure there is adequate flow of air into the box or you'll be chocking it. |

| Boxing it helps to keep hot air away and only intake cold air. An effective way to increase air flow to the pod would be a bigger snorkel (Tickford/EL GT) or even better a big mouth SS inductions. A modified box opening and sequintial scoop would give great flow or if you want to try making your own pipe from say the front bar to the box. |

you should get a pod filter with an inverted cone at the top increases the surface area.......
like i have seen used on r33 skylines.............. |

| I think i want to try this. Ive got a uni panel filter at the moment but have experimented with pods befor on my last car. I found them to be more responsive i guess thats because theres more surface area?? anyway, no ones has any dramas with this set up have they? |
