depends on what range ur looking at.
price on price, the type S splits from alpine match up against the kappa splits from infinity. i like the sound of both of them (i have the infinity's in my car, my GF has the type S in hers)
otherwise, if money isn't really an object, the kappa perfect 6.1 splits from infinity are hard to pass. EMIT tweeter (patented by them) is one of the nicest tweeters i've heard. mate has a set in his car, and the midbass is fantastic. on the other hand, ur looking at around $850 for a set and u'd need to feed at least 120WRMS into each of them
i'd suggest finding somewhere that has them on a demo board, or better yet, in a car that you can listen too. let your ears (and wallet) do the buying. |

2 words. listen first.
cadence tweeters sound like poo (IMHO) far too harsh. haven't heard a decent cadence setup yet. just another sony brand to me (all looks, over priced, no go) |

Have demo'd some REF6000CS component 2 ways...a very nice speaker...not much of a fan of the kappas...but then again, not much of a fan of the older Alpine Type S 6.5's...however the newer ones are on par with the older Type R's - a tidy package for the dollars IMHO.
I'm playing around with an F1 / Type X front stage atm...I want to see how well Alpine's higher end compare from 7 years ago when I had my DDC-R17H set.
Cheers,
Steve |

After all this time it never ceases to amaze me that people still base sound quality questions around brands and not actually listening to as many different driver sets as they can and preferably in a similar vehicle as to their own.
There are many excellent drivers on the market if you actually look around.
I.M.O the best way to shop for a new set of drivers is the following order
1, price - work out your budget, ie $200 or $1500....
2, sound quality - listen to the best gear you can get for your budget...
3, size - see if they will fit with the level of modification that you are comfortable, ie drop in replacement or radical door mods...
4, brand - who cares? If they sound good!!!!! |

Couldn't agree more. You would be surprised how many times I said the same thing on V1.1 |

Yeah i would go with Alpine mate. I think the speakers and the rest of thier range is top notch. I have thier Type S coax and they sound F**k awesome.
Price is pretty good considering other brands can be way more expensive for a lesser quality product.
90% of my Audio gear is Alpine and i think it sounds nice as. Clear treble and it sounds great ,no distortion. And bass apleanty |

lolz , very true. However alpine at an industry level has good standerds and very rarly disapoints. They have a big open market so i mean you can trust them . I use pioneer but you know when you get to a certain level its all the same "shiiet". |

| I can't comment on the infinity splits but I have a set of Alpine splits in my EL that I originally installed in my last car, the XH. Was no way I was letting them go with the car. They have been great speakers and are showing no loss of sound quality. |

I have never called Alpine anything other than the good manufacturer that they are, I personally run twin Alpine head units but to blindly say that brand X is better than brand Y is utter rubbish when the installation and application generally makes more difference than the brand used.
But the purpose of my comments was not to rag a particular brand but to get people to think and listen to the music not what just buy what everbody else buys..... |

Infinity is certianly the way to go, plenty of bass, sooooo clear, and very nice treble... Just the way it should be!
Now to upgrade the dodgy-as Sony splits...
