Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum icon_redface.gif but it is the only one that sorta covers what I want to ask.

Why is it that all illumination dims very slightly when using the wipers on intermittant setting, indicators and/or brake lights. I have a new battery, but this occurence persists. Although not annoying by any stretch of the imagination it would be nice to know why it is happening and if it is something I should worry about. icon_biggrin.gif

Sounds kinda weird hey?

I wouldnt worry about it, that's for sure. So its only on intermittent? This would suggest that whatever circuitry is used when intermittent is enabled, is causing some sort of drain on the car's power supply.

Do interior lights dim when headlights come on? Anything else act weird?

When the new battery was installed the NRMA guy checked the battery and associated electrics were working OK. The problem is not intermittant it is constant - one of the causes is the intermittant wipers when they "stroke across the windshield"

My mechanic has also checked out the electrics and has not mentioned any problem - perhaps I should just leave it alone.

sounds like a bad connection somewhere! most likely in either the wiper curcuit or illumination curcuit

I get the same problem but with my electric window buttons. When I use the up/down winder buttons, my dash fades, ever so slightly. Would'nt worry about it too much.

i reckon that you notice because it uses power only for a moment and then it stops. this way you see a change in the dim. prob when its constantly going back and forth you don't notice cos it is always dim and not a flash. anyway i reckon somethins up.

i just realised - what a pointless post.

It all has to do with alternator load, and 99.9% of cars do it. The more electronic gadgetry you have the more noticable it is.

Ever sat behind an older car and noticed that whenever there indicator light is flashing, the brake lights dim slightly. The alternator is putting out x amount of volts, and all of a sudden there is an extra bit that needs a pice of the voltage. The alternator takes a second to catch up to the demand.

I notice mine especially because of the digital dash, it dims slightly mainly when using the power windows.

I wouldnt worry about it, unless you have a 100% brand new alternator your car will do this.
