Let me know if you guys use shell LPG formulated oil 15w40, i use that in the ef falcon 6, it has, however, got 326,000 kays on it (not taxi) just recently blown a seal somewhere on it, using a bit o oil and i got some timing chain rattle, MEH, she still goes well. icon_confused.gif i need a slap, but yea anyone use that? Its fairly expensive at27.95 for 5 litres for mineral oils

I'm going to be swapping over to MOTUL 10w40 next change for the AU motor. Currently using HPR10 but I think it's too thick.

I used to use HPR30 in my EB motor, started using that at about 180,000km and I think that's what stuffed it. When I pulled it apart the bores were badly glazed which is why it was using a lot fo oil and blowing smoke.

So take this guys advice people, and don't use oil that is too thick.

ten four voxace, Its unusual for those engines to start blowing smoke at such low mileage, musta got damn hot in the bores with no oil or something ya think? I cant remember which mechanic told me that changing to some oils with different types of detergents in them can stuff the seals in cars too. but i think the front seal on mine is rooted from lots of heavy right foot application, towing etc.

OK, put some Motul 8100 5w40 in. Started her up, no noises, and actually got better oil pressure than I did with the Penrite 10w50 oddly enough.

would it be safe to run the 5w40 in the 3.9 with 154,000 kms??

Lifters in mine have NEVER ticked ever. Even after leaving it for a week. It has always run 15w50

thats just what the previous owners used. Plus, on the oil filler cap thingy on the rocker cover it says "only use 40/50 multigrade oil" so i thought the 15w50 would be okay

Quick Q:

When cold my oil pressure varies between 4.3-4.7 bar, but when hot the oil pressure can drop as low as 1.9-2.1 bar on idle, and 2.3-2.5 bar WHILE moving/reving! I'm fairly certain the current oil is 15/40 valvoline durablend (in it when I bough the car). Would you agree that going up to penrite HPR 15 (15/60) would help improve the hot running pressure, while maintaining the same cold engine performance?

Cheers
Lee

your oil has no bearing on how fast the engine will warm up.
as far as oil pressure there is only one way to find out.

I use Shell Helix Ultra (5W40) and its been used on the Ef for aslong as the previous owner has
I think its good.

BTW DONT use any castrol oil what so ever. If any of you know anything about it what happens is it sticks to the motor and blocks of holes where the oil is supposed to flow. Castrol dont put solvents in the oil and this is where you get teh magnatec from. GTX is the worst of the lot.

I just bought some Motul 4100 10W40 today for my car, cheap as chips compared to all the other synthetic oils! Also the guy said it is a really great oil, and recommended it for both NA and tubo applications.

Are there any disadvantages (apart from the cost) of using a fully synthetic oil in your engine? As someone said the castrol fully synthetic GTX can actually clog up your oil galleries icon_confused.gif
