Posted: Mon Dec 27, 2004 12:25 am Post subject: Sub Install Problem in EF |
|
|
My brother and I tried to install my 12" Sony Xplode this afternoon.
We ran the power cable from the battery through the footwall via the steering column and up the centre to the boot. The RCA cable went in properly.
But the sub didnt work, not even the cone moved a millimetere.
We figured out the problem was the amp is not getting power, but we dont know how.
Any ideas cuz we got none. |

| I assume you tried the obvious such as testing the power cable with a multimeter or 12V test lamp and made sure the amp works by powering it with something closer? |

I mounted my amp on the back of the '60' part of teh 64/40 split rear seats. 4 self tapper screws easy.
As for the subs, (I got two 10" in sep. sealed boxes), I just occy strapped them to the boot lock catch. |

I do about 2-3 installs a month.
My favourite places to mount boxes in a falcon are right behind the back seat, so you can drop one or two seats down a get a more defined and clearer punch at your ears. this can be done by removing the sub from the box and putting about four 35ml self tapping screws down through the box into the chassis. another option is to stick velcro strips onto the bottom side of the box (the strips with the hooks, not the fur..... fur is bad!)
I prefer the first option as if this was done in my car the box wouldn't stay for very long, about untill i hit the first corner
My fav spots for mounting amps is
1. on the sub box
2. on the back of the back seats.
3. recessed in a custom boot.
4. on the inside of the boot (alot of work necessary)
5. recessed in the rear footwells
6. upside down under the parcel tray (this is last option as it doesnt alow the amps to cool very well)
the factors to be taken into acount when deciding where to mount these components are
1. Practicality
2. Cost
3. Usability (accesability, ease of use)
4. The desired outcome (efficency, looks... that type of stuff)
PM me or give me a bell if you want some more neat ideas about how to build custom boots or mount caps and distro blocks or even dual battry setups!

i have a sony 12" and mine sits up on the part just behind the seats... its on one of those sony boxes so i had to make some slight adjustments to the parcel shelf with an angle grinder

| yeh im completely aware that is interfering with the structure of the car.... but the coppers couldnt see it anyway coz of the way my set up is... doesnt feel astho i have lost any stiffness.... it was a decision that had to be made... and i need the boot space...so it had to sit up there |

Sarcasm people!
i hoped someone would arc up on my pro installers coment, have to be careful with what you say sometimes thats all.
