I was just after some info on giving my holley a clean out, i got some s**t petrol the other day from batemans bay and since then it has been running pretty crappy and coughing a little, and i think my carby might need a clean, its has the symptoms of running the car with the choke on? could a new air filter help? and what can i clean on my carby, with out like pulling it all apart as its only fairly new.
cheers John.

There is a spray you can get, I forget what it is called, I think I got it from Supercheap. Anyway I used some on the 2brl weber of my old xd 4.1. Make sure you wear rubber gloves, I didnt, and I found out how corrosive this stuff is. It removed all the grit, grime and build-up in my carbie, and brought it back looking like brand new.

depends how thorough you want to be dude, a rebuild kit is pretty inexpensive, and make a worthwhile difference, and often the needle's get grit in them than can only be dislodged by compresses air or a tooth brush,,, if your goin that far you might as well get the kit and do it perfectly,, its worth it,

if you have a vaccum secondary carb, make sure to check the diaphram in the secondary butterfly's they often become weak or porus, causing improper operation. and not enough air,,, is never fun icon_smile.gif

well my carby is only 1.5 years old so it shouldnt be up for a rebuild yet i dont think? and my baseplate on the carby is only 6 months old. i think i have just clogged it from, s**t petrol or something?
anyways ill give it a look, also would degreaser be ok to spray down the carby? or will it damage stuff?

depends if its water or solvent based degreaser, water based isnt great to get inside the bores, and solvent based can corrode the rubber inside the carby. o'rings ect.

i took my carby off today and soaked it in degreaser and cleaned it right up, and took my jets out and cleaned them, and now it revs up very quickly, but whilst driving and accellerating it takes off awesome gets to around 2 and a bit grand then coughs slightly and then picks up again, its got me buggered, im thinking my fuel filter could be giving me problems?

have you set your float levels correctly? it could be too low and hitting a lear spot during acceleration, and when accel levels out, it fills back up enough,,

or it could be fuel filter, but that usually clogs up at higher revs and stays clogged untill teh revs drop.
