| I am currently running a pioneer mp3 head unit, 300W kenwood 6x9's in the rear shelf and pioneer 220W in the front doors and i was wondering what amp and sub would be best to install? I dont really want to spend a heap of money on it either. |

| i dont usually support mixing 6x9s with subs. however if you want to do so, i think go 12", not 15 for a start. 15s are generally better for punchy bass, and you dont want that coz its what 6x9s will give you. 12s are better for nice long bass, so id say get a pair of 12s if you can, otherwise just one. what sort of price range are you looking at? |

| Have a geez on ebay for a bargin, that's were i got my sub's from. Only cost me $250 for 2x12" pioneer 700watt subs in a pioneer box, and they didn't apear to have ever been used, they were probably stolen but still was damn cheap. They also have alot of amps on there too |

15's are not punchy subs, 12's or less are considered more punchy than a 15! 15 inch subs are for SPL or hardcore bass lovers.  |

Then you would be after a 10' or 12' mate!  12' is a good allround type of sub to have. I have the new Alpine Type S 12' sub in the XR6 (check gallery) and it pumps out really well. I only have a little amp running it atm but still it sounds pretty tip top.
I listen to mainly heavy stuff so yeah i was happy with my investment.
Paid $400 for sub in custom made box to suit SQ and then i paid $150 for the amp which is an AXIS Audio 2channel. |

| i see ur from ballarat, not far from JB hi-fi in melbourne, if you want to save $$$ wait a bit for stocktake or end of season/demo stock sale, you will save hundreds. they looked after me but i do have a good mate that works at chaddy, got $1500 worth of car audio goods for $940. The sales ppl know alot more than the other big outlets. |

ive always thought that the smaller the sub the more punchy they are, and larger subs are for more low down rumble?
i have found the vdo's HPS 12 is a good bang for your buck sub. I also am selling my amp that was running my sub if your interested |

I would go with a pair of Vennon 12" subs and a box build amop, that delivers 290rms between the 2 woofers. I have installed this combination into a number of cars and it works very well. Brand new you can get all of it for just under $400 and it will work well with your set-up. The amp builds into the box and this makes mounting it even eaiser.
The sound is quite good |

as far as i know, the actual size is not what determines the throw...Its the thickness of the rubber surround that determines it. So for example a 10" sub wit a fat rubber will have more throw the a 15" with a small rubber. Your theory only comes in when your comparing a 10" and a 15" with the same size rubbers...
So you are correct...Jus not entirely

| with respect to punch, smaller subs have less excursion area so they can react much quicker, the larger the sub the longer and deeper the bass line can go, if your lookin for good punch, try and get some alpine 8", kick a** subs, juss hard to come by. if you juss want loud long bass notes go for the 15, 12's a good middle ground, get the punch, and some long notes, i stuck with the JL W3 series cuz they withstand a beating, my advice is save and buy a good sub and amp, amps are important since even if you got a kick a** sub but a s**t boss(for example) amp to run it, you'll juss never have the power to use the sub to its potential |

| also don't be fooled by big numbers, some companies brag huge wattage to get you to buy it, but fail when it comes to quality, look around and have a listen to peoples stereos, subs act differently in car as apposed to on the board in the shop |

Usually, the bigger, more reputable brands have a pretty true power rating. Kicker are good, cause i bought a 600W RMS Amp and inside the packaging, they have a piece of paper saying that it was tested and so on, and passed everything, but that it was actually putting out 740W RMS instead.  |

yeah alpine does the same thing, got that little sheet with my amp saying meets 500rms but hit like max 580 or something, which is still in saftey limits |
