This cost me a total of $16.50 and improved airflow, a good alternative to a "Bigmouth" for EB and ED models with airboxes.

Hunt around the wreckers for an EA Radiator shroud with the air scoop, Find the top of an EA series II Airbox, not forgetting the rubber seal/Boot that fits in between the Radiator shroud and the snorkel.

Separate the snorkel from the top of the airbox, sometimes it has sealant and screws (the snorkel has a bigger diameter internally than the EB ED original) and cut off the excess air bleedoff with a grinder and fine blade (ugly piece of work bulge on the snorkel) and block the 2 holes, one on top and one on the bottom with silicon, use some tape on the inside til it dries.

Refit the snorkel to the airbox top, fit the radiator shroud, fit the airbox top and rubber seal, there you go air intake improvement, beats $160 to $500 "Bigmouth" fitted (I have been told it can be fitted to EB and ED but it would look s**t by cutting the plastic mounting points on the radiator shroud and a hole in the airbox).

I am running this at the moment, It looks original and seems to feel like it
is breathing better at 100 K's +

To all you Airpod freaks, unless you get the airpod outside of the engine bay you are sucking hot air and heating your engine and running it inefficiently, even with a heat shield. icon_smile.gif

Very OT, but Ford actually made EDs with CFI (and thus, with the "tennis raquet" instead of an airbox)?

No they didn't.

The EB series 1 was the last Falcon to be made with CFI. From Series 2 4.0 litre onwards, MPEFI became standard.

That's a very tidy looking install there opto! I like the factory look.

So the mouth on a standard EB is fairly small i take it?

Yeah 4.9 EF Futura, the internal diameter of the snorkel is about half and the radiator air intake scoop is by far larger and has a tendancy to force air into the box with a "funnelling" type of effect.

Thanx Madxh, I actuall used a door rubber seal/plug off an EA for the top to keep a good look but it has silicon underneath to hold it in place smoothed over as not to effect airflow, not sure if it matters but it wasn't hard to do.

No Needturbo 6, the idea hit me when I spotted the EA series II intake in the wreckers, actually I haven't seen the XH ute air intake.

the xh one works well..
The problem with having two openings facing slightly diff directions with diff diameters and shapes may be explained by fluid dynamics.

even though the engine is sucking , one sealed snorkel will work better than 2 as above cos if there is any diff in pressure within each snorkel section one will work against the other and actually try and push toward the lower pressure area (least effective snorkel section). this wont allow a full on build up of air (higher pressure) rushing into a bottleneck created by one larger snorkel to the airbox.

so yes 2 snorkels can get higher volumes of cold air toward the filter, but you wont have the forced induction bit happening..

just what i reckon
(air is classed as a fluid)
