I'm now completely "over" the 5.0 windsor engine, after recently spending no more than $2500 on the "better" parts to fit to the new toy.
All that I have done is change the exhaust, fit some better plugs, a cooler thermostat, cold air, air filter and the best investment a Flash tuner to custom tune it, and am now getting around 260kw at the wheels.
For the same type of power on the EL XR8 I just traded, it cost me atleast 3X that amount, and still was not even in the same league with torque and low down grunt.
Just try and imagine what the next generation boss motors will have going for them, I hear ford engineers are currently experimenting with VCT ,and possibly a SCT blower from the states which will sport around a modest 400kw with only 6psi of boost? |

maybe i shouldn't rule out an xr8 when i go to purchase a BF.
260KW at the wheels is pretty good with just minor mods like that, that's about 60-65KW more than stock. |

Good to see your still keen to mod it, and id have to say your brakes are bloody wicked.
This car goes like nothing else, is definately something different, from your everyday xr8. |

you reckon it went well "that" night, well...... it now goes heaps quicker!
Just a warning guys, if you do make the change for the better!
make sure you are prepared to have the clutch changed to a better unit once you go past the 280kw mark (flywheel), as I am losing heaps of time with a slipping clutch, but best time yet is a 12.98 1/4

You gave the brakes and the gearbox a good working out to and from the shops i'll give it that. Sounds like a load more fun now.

Chances are he might find out when the bigger "alternator" comes if he decides to get it. |

| Pitty it'll start getting expensive when you want to start playing with the engines. I mean to replace all 4 cams and that is going to cost a pretty penny, think I read somewhere Crows cost $1,600.00 for the cams. Should be worth it but! |

The standard cams have been proven to be good enough to make 468kw at the treads!!!, as are the rest of the internals.
But if you were gonna change the cams, it would be better to have tthe originals custom ground to suit the application, eg blown, torque, high rpm durations etc. and usually 1/2 the price
I am currently looking at the SVT cobra centre mount "alternator" if i'm gonna do it, simply cos of the cost efficiency, $1000 for the blower, $300 for a gilmor drive kit, and $400 for bigger injecyors IF required, then $400 for a couple of hours on the rollers to get it all in sequence! 400kw
maybe upgrade the oil and fuel pump too as usual
why would you play with a windsor ever again! |

Didn't relise you were planning on forcing it.
What gearbox is in it? I presume T56 (and if I remember right the 6 speed cam out in the Mark II), as I wouldn't have thought the T5 even with a new clutch would be very happy. Any idea how much the T56 can handle?
What clutch are you going to fit? Personally I'm a rather big fan of the Excedy range. I know they've got a few for the XR6T, so I'd asume they havn't forgotten about the XR8... |
