i would just like to say before everyone goes chopping up their airboxs this weekend. It MAY NOT work for all. just make sure you take it for a drive first and check that cool pocket of air i refer to is actually there or you'll be putting yourself behind the 8 ball straight out. as well, on hot days in traffic your engine bay WILL heat soak, it will most likely add to overall engine heat and increased fuel consumption in slow city driving. but not a problem for me as the only roads i frequent have a 80 limit. you WILL notice a great engine note over 2700 revs tho!

cut some holes in the side of my airbox tonight, dont know if the car goes any better, i dont feel anything, but it definately sounds better, the exhaust has a much deeper note from 2500rpm (coming onto the cam) onwards. And a bit more induction noise icon_biggrin.gif

I made the modifications to my airbox... only 3 holes but much larger than the ones shown at the the top of the page... it makes alot more noise up until 3500 rpm then it goes completely stock again... (very weird) it sounds like its has extractors in the 2- 3.5 rpm but after that goes quiet and back to stock... alot more throttle response and engine sounds healthier (breathing wise)... good cheap mod to perform.

ummm doesnt this defeat the purpose of having a filter as u r now by passing the original intake n the air is no longer passing thru the filter but direct into the pie to the throttle body??? no need for a high flow filter when u have no filtreation anyway hope u kept the receipt

it is only going 2 sound healthier til u get a blocked injector from all the muck that can now pass through the throtle body, n again i must repeat dont bother spending ur money on a k&n panel filter that isnt going 2 do anything at all...

two things here, they have made the holes in their air boxes BEFORE the air filter, so as per the factory the air is still filtered.
Secondly there are two different types of air boxes shown here, one from an eb/ed series car and an ef/el car.
Now the ef and el type have the air coming in through the bottom of the air box and up into the filter that way.
and the ea, eb and ed have a log style intake manifold and they have the air coming in through the top of their air box, then it goes through the filter and out the bottom of the air box.

hope that helps you out there jdas,

just have another look at the pictures. ea - ed air comes in the bottom
ef -bf come in through the top
this is due to the broadband inlet manifold
