hey all
depending on what dcstraight does, i may have the option to get an EL XR bonnet in top nick for $300. i'd have to get it sprayed, but i was more so wondering what you guys think of the EL XR bonnets, and if it would be a worthwhile investment to throw onto my car. it would also give me the option to mod around with the airbox to get some more flow getting in there thru the scoops...
any thoughts? |

So you've got the XR front now fraser, yeah?
Is there much difference with the XR bonnet - just the vents or is there more to it? |

| yep - EL XR front end. only diff is the fact that the XR bonnets have the scoops - same shape otherwise. just wondering if that price is good too. i wasn't really out looking to replace the bonnet, but if its a good price, then it might be a good upgrade - plus i'd be looking at close to $300 if i wanted to get scoops fitted to my existing bonnet anyways... |

Personally i'd go for it, vents look tough as all hell.
No idea if that's a fair price. I wouldve thought they'd be worth a bit more than that tho. |

Bonnet vents on the EL XR is nice to look at yeah, but the vents are sealed underneath anyway, and no advantage of air release or intake.
However, in saying that i am maybe 2 days away from having all the gear i need to do my own little aftermarket mod on the passenger side and turning that vent into a air intake scoop, flowing air directly on to a new K&N pod filter. The SS Inductions kit can stay where it is too, so the only changes will be much more and much colder air getting to the filter. Sounds interesting don't it?
I am keeping all the bits just in case the project goes to the dogs, but if not, i will tell you how it all goes and make a few pics available. |

| yeah. u can buy those sequential scoops from a few places. used to be able to here, dunno if they still have em. they do look good and yes, $300 is a good price. i've talked to a couple people and they usually want about 400 or so. not that that's a bad price, i'll still get one eventually but it's just not a priority right now. they do look good though. |

speary10 - yeah mate would be great if you could take a few photos on the way - i've just changed over to a K&N panel filter, but am more than prepared to play around with the intakes to get what i want - i've a spare airbox, and the K&N pods are only $70 anyways, so thats a future plan.
lol the more i think about it, the more it'd be a good look on the car eh - ahhh more $$$! well, i'll see if dcstraight wants it or not - if not, then might go grab it! |

Yeah i reckon go with it dude will look nice as! Price is pretty decent but then once you get it resprayed thats prolly another $200 or so, so thats about $500 all up....Dont know how much a brand new one would be but $500 would be pretty close to that

I have cut mine out myself. I didnt want to take the plate off altogether really. I gues my point is really, that they were not designed to be useful, and even opening them up doesnt make a huge amount of difference. In saying that though i would rather them open than closed, but they are not exactly at the highest part of the bonnet to let much heat out. Not nearly as effective as the EL GT bonnet scoop i had on my Fairmont. |

Did you travel over to WA and meet the guy ? A member or two have met the seller and purchased goods from him already - the guy is turning his EL XR into a funny car - so many metal panels have to be sold off so he can fibreglass a shell.
I'd be thinking twice before posting something that you know nothing about |
