Whats the best cam?
No such thing icon_biggrin.gif << VERY true - no one cam is THE best
have a look through http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=66
Wade, Surecam, Crow, RPD, Jim Mock Motorsport and others all make cams for these engines. Check them all out and see what is best for you. If you post a thread asking for cam advice, provide as much information as possible about your car - Engine mods both current and future, gearbox, diff, how you drive most of the time, how much of a lumpy idle can you put up with, what your power/quarter mile goals are. This will help others to help you icon_smile.gif

NO! These are a scam. For your money you will get a 10c resistor that will trick you ECU into thinking its hotter/colder than it is. The best you can hope for is to not lose power.

How do I set the timing?

*note: you cant change the timing on EF's as the ignition is fully computer controlled.

1. Have the engine at normal operating temperature, clean the timing marks on the balancer and timing cover, connect timing light.
2a (EA and EB1). There will be a plug in the engine bay near the brake booster. Earthing this puts the ECU into diagnostic mode for timing adjustments to be made.
2b (EB2 or later). Open the instrument panel cover to the lower right of the steering wheel and locate the diagnostic port (white plug with lots of pins). Connect a test lead (bit of wire, paper clip, etc) from the top-left pin (Engine STI) to earth (the lower-left pin is an earth).
3. Start the engine. It should idle very high indicating that the ECU is doing a self test. You now have 1 minute to check the timing by firing your timing gun at the timing mark on the balancer. If you run out of time, stop and restart the engine. The timing should be locked at 10 degrees advanced.
4. If the timing is out, loosen the hold-down bolt on the distributor and rotate it until you have the correct timing.
5. Turn off the engine, remove the jumper wire from the diagnostic port and tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.

If you can think of any more post them and ill add them to this list.

Actually, a script that made someone who clicks on the 6 cylinder forum for the first time automatically show this page would be an awesome idea... Slightly annoying whenever you're on a different machine and would have to enter it a second time... but we know how to do that quickly, a first time user would be far more likely to read the first post at least icon_smile.gif
