|
|
Learning a bit here on the forums, decided it might help to run BP Ultimate in the AU wagon, but so far its running like a bucket of bolts. Its done half a tank, and it was pretty empty when I filled it up, so its definately got pretty close to 100% Ultimate going through it.
I have found the revs drop now and again when I take off, and it is severely lacking in power, unless I give it a kick - then it will kick down and take off (its like I need to get the petrol hard through it to go well) but in general suburban driving its not feeling too good.
Now, I'm under the impression this fuel is higher octane and also contains detergents/cleaners....am I correct?
Am I also correct in assuming it may be cleaning out injectors, pump etc and the crap its clearing out may be floating around the system causing these problems?? Its definately not my imagination - its definately running worse on the Ultimate....
Hope my non-mechanic rant makes sense.....I fix computers, not cars.
Any ideas? |

Lol, well you're half way there when it comes to EFI
Maybe a s**t batch of fuel, altho i find ultimate to be fairly consistent. Maybe give 98RON another chance or go back to 91 and see if fixes problem or try 95 as an intermediate? |

Help me get all the way.....is there a good article that explains fuel systems well - like 'EFI for dummies?'
I realise its only half a tank through, but thought I would mention it. |

Well prolly the first EFI related document i read was the EEC-V information found in the document section on this site. Have a look there and can get much more technical if you wish Important to understand the sensors, their readings and the impact this has on the fuel injection process.
EFI is a fairly basic concept - measure air, inject appropriate amount of fuel and blow the s**t out of it at the right moment |

| I tried Ultimate and had the same problem in my BA XR6. Went back to 95 RON, no problem. |

Falconboy it sounds like you may have the same problem as me at the moment. I dont think its fuel related. Try changing your ignition leads and get a new set of sparkplugs.
It helped heaps on mine but its not solved yet. I might have to change my coil pack. I dont know what the AUs use (mines an EF) but you may have similar problems. Lack of power and idle is crap also feels like it has a flat spot.
Give it a shot.

| You can use AU coil packs, both EF and AU packs are Bosch, AU ones are suppose to be better. |

Well I put BP Ultimate in my EL the other day cause everyone was big-noting it and I must say she runs better and has as much power as when I put Optimax in it. |

I have used BP Ultimate for 6 months or more now. And my fuel readout has dropped to 12.2 L/100KM, from 14.6. But I am experiencing a strange cold start, it splutters a bit like it's going to konk out, but comes good when it gets warm.
I have also found that when I have been forced to switch to Shell Premium Unleaded 3 times previously, the engine had become smoother and more powerful on the Shell, with roughly the same fuel economy as the Ultimate.
I'm now thinking of switching to Shell full time. I'm starting to think the Shell Premium stuff is a good product. |

Yeah i think most V8 owners here will agree the BP Ultimate is brilliant on these engines (not that ive got much choice anymore, lol)... and a few have commented the shell not so great in them. |

Has a poll been made before on this type of topic?
It might be worthwhile to see which brands the majority of users prefer. Obviously a seperate poll for I6's and V8's would be necessary. |

I've done the test again.
And I definately have improved power in my I6 with Shell over the Ulimate98. It's also very slightly more smoother, tiny bit smoother on cold startup. Also sounds better at idle too. |
