hey guys/girls
got an auto AU XR8 series 1, this morning i was stationary at traffic lights when i took off i hit the acelerator and went no faster or slower than any other time, and although the car was moving it was revving like all sh*t then there was a (hard to explain here but i'll try) "clunking" sound, now this could be felt through the car (hope you know what im on about with that comment), then it shifted in gear and continued to run without any further problems.
i've got no idea what happend and it hasnt done this before, is this a serious problem here that should get looked at??
thanks
Christine |

Hiya christine
So do you think it was the gearbox or the engine? Did it take off in 1st gear and then settle down once it hit 2nd?
When was the last time the box was serviced? Fluid level OK?
So the whole car was shuddering? If it hasnt done it since it may not be major.... |

hi martin
im thinkin that it was comin more from the gear box, the car was serviced recently (one month ago at the max) and the oil levels seem fine. whole car shuddered as it slipped into 2nd it didnt last long just enough for me to panic and think it was gonna die on me! |

Probably not the most prudent way to go about it but i'd try and get it to do it again. Give the old gal a bit of a flogging and see if the problem rears its head again.
I think i may have experienced this before - taking off normally and the car just shuddered until it changed gears. I was thinking "well, that's that - box is dead" but this was about 12 months ago and it hasnt done it since! (touchwood). |

| If it doesn't happen again it was probably a little electronic error of some sort. If it continues to do it I would first check fluid levels and band tension and also the neutral safety switch, all of which can cause this problem. |
