WTF is with all this 5sp manual s**t??

In my experience a shiftkitted Auto with a 3.23 or better will flog a manual provided the Auto is stalled up.

Think about, how long would it take you to change gears in a T5?

Anyone who has driven a shiftkitted auto with decent gearing will know what i mean

i am talking autos fitted with shiftkits and a decent gearing.

and unless your really quick with the clutch and have prefect .500 sec reation times they are slower to change gears, meaning that the extra speed you gained with the 5/10's of f**k all gearing difference is lost

i admit they are more fun to drive.... but thats about where it ends

i agree fordz.

To many manuals. 3.73:1 diff gears, a 2800rpm stally and a stage 2 shift kit will see you in front of a manual falcon imo.

everyone talks about the rediculous long first gear in the BTR's. Put 3.73 or 3.9 in the diff and 1st gear becomes your best friend, not to mention 2nd icon_smile.gif

i dont agree.
to me, a 3.73/3.9 is pathetic for highway driving.
a shift-kit wont make much of a difference, just slightly firmer/quicker shifts.
auto's rob rwkw which makes up for the manual's shift and then some.
if your like me, shifting a manual is done quite quickly, and you can launch it just as hard if you know the grip level on the street/track.
i suppose it comes down to personal preference though. i prefer manual, although i still reckon auto's are good.
if you haven't got a 12 sec car, a manual will more than likely be quicker.
my .5c worth.

you are right, those new hilux's are pretty quick.
got into a redlight gp with a turbo pulsar. well i wasnt embarassed at all, he was behind me. well i took my foot off accellerator at 90, didnt want to break laws, to much. he went past and f**k what a noise it made. got told later he was boincing off limiter and the noise was excess boost. stiil, i was happy as iv only got an EF which i bought off a mate real cheap. got to get it dynoed, does anyone know of a good one round penrith

ok, i have the definitive answer on the new hiluxes.

I got to go on a highly imprtant run in the bosses 06 hilux to get some parts for one of the machines about a month ago (he said "go as fast as you can" which i took as "flog the guts out of my car") it goes faster in a straight line than a falcon, but its geared f**k short, its revs at 80 were about 2100rpm, it sounds very tinny and unrefined, the interior is all s**t dodgy cheap crap. and the handling OMFG! i came into a corner at a speed that my car could do if the road was ICE the damn thing understeered like MAD and nearly toppled over, even a falcon with standard suspension and pizza cutters could manage to outhandle it.

if i had a choice between a brand new hilux and an EBII/ED futura/mont in good condition, i would take the falc hands down

thats because its a 4 weel drive, of course its not going to be able to turn as fast its center of gravity is much higher. i dont think its fair to pay them out either as they arent a bad car, u cant realy compare them to a falcon fairly as the applications they were made for are too different. tinny and un refined? was it a deisel... not a stab at you just my thoughts..

this is my boss's hilux 06 SR5 Extra Cab hilux.. theyre very nice..

1 thing i like about inside.. the dash is invisible when keys off..
soon as you put key in.. the dash lights up with the speedo and ODO etc.
so when your not there people cant look @ your K's

and this is a SR5 + a Tray as a trailer i spotted.

i was more getting at how people are worried that a 4wd is now better than a 90's falcon, its better in one aspect, but still far inferior in others.

I agree with smoek rubber here. Look at the top 1/4 mile times for e-series falcons all the ones at the top run t5's.
THere is no a chance a BTR with a 2800 stall (or whatever it is) and an electrical shift kit is going to beat a t5. I laucnh my car on the strip at 4000rpm, so technically if i was auto i would need at least a 3500 stall in the car to even get close. Like smoke rubber said, if you havent got a 12 second car or less, manual is the go..
