I've got the opportunity to buy a 1978 Ford XC Falcon ute. (think it's a Falcon 500).
It';s the 302 4.9L V8. It's had a bit of work done to it including Genie extractors and dual Lukey exhausts. The engines good, and it goes hard, just ask the 5L Commies we met up with in town!
There's little bit of work done all over the car, such as the headlights have been changed to Hella's, and lots of little small things like that! But the biggest and best thing is that it has been made into a fully engineered, registered, legal and safe DUAL CAB! It's got a Coupe interior in it.
It's still owned by the original owner who drove it out of the factory.
Now that all sounds perfect, but years a go he retired, moved up the coast and since then due to financial problems and such his baby has been slowly neglected to now only being used to launch his boat.
Because of this it's rusting.
Recently though it has been sanded back a few things bogged up and primed, left unpainted. Not a top job.
Basically he wants to get rid of it. To the point of selling it to a wrecker, so I can probably get it dirt cheap.
Just not sure if I should...
I'd get Special Interest Rego and only Third Part Insurance so that hopefully wouldn't cost much. And I'd give it a dody home job respray and just try to maintain it from getting worse. I dunno there's just something about this ute that makes me unable to resist it, no matter how s**t it is! |

Sounds good, as kind of a side-project sort of thing. If you've got the extra $$$ to spend on it. IMO, its gonna cost you a fair bit to get all the rust professionally cut out/filled & then re-sprayed, and i personally wouldnt do it.. If it was a coupe' though, id snatch it up in a second! 
Unless you're gona do it all yourself? |

I'd love to restore it, but there's no way I can afford it at the moment.
I'm thinking to try to maintain it, stop it from deteriarating any further for the moment, and see where I get to when I can. |

If he's done a botchy on the rust, or has just covered it & hasn't cut it out properly, its just gonna spread..
That's the reason why i had to sell my tc xle cortina.. 1 year ago now *sniff* - I couldnt afford to get it cut out professionally.. Ah well, got me an xr8 now
But if its something you really wanna do, and youve got the storage space for it (id either cover it or keep it in a garage), id go for it and do it slowly.. Whatever your heart desires mate  |

Just imagine it as a Summernats cruiser - just cut the rust - bog it and give it a bright solid colour.

| No - but then again they don't have Summernats in SA - but lots of us croweaters go to canberra for it. |

I was talking to a mate about it and he said he's got a Rust Converter or something like that which might help. Anyone got any idea what one of these is?
I was thinking of spraying the underbody in chrome and the cars exterior in black or dark grey. |
