| O.k., have a quick question for you: Car (EF - I6) runs like bucket of poo on petrol. Disconnect the fuel pump, and car runs for about two seconds before dying. Should I suspect (in order) the pump, filter, pressure regulator, injectors. |

I would not suspect the pump. The few seconds of running you get after disconnecting it is only from residual pressure in the fuel rail. This means that the pump is working.
I would however suspect, the filter and the injectors. Replace the filter and if that doesn't help, get the injectors cleaned.
I've had experience with blocked injectors and the car nearly rattled itself to bits, it was so rough.
I don't suspect the regulator, as it only varies the pressure. So if it is out of whack, the car will either run lean and therefore hot. Or it would run rich and therefore blow blue/black smoke out the exhaust. It would not run rough. |

Thank you for your reply, and I take on board what you have said.
I suspected the pump because I also have an EL, and when I disconnected the pump to do some work, the motor ran for at least a minute before dying.
Another reason to suspect the pump could be as the car is run mainly on gas, the fuel tank has been run quite low for a while, which means the pump may have been exposed for a while, thus not being lubricated.
However, I will go the cheaper/easier way first, and change the filter, as I do know that this little thing can cause quite a few problems, especialy if the tank has been run low for a while. |

proberly injectors dirty, if u run on gas alot and dont use the injectors then they usually clog up with s**t.
would not be the pump at all if the pump was going out it would start some times then not and stop when driving. |

Uhuh!!!
You run on gas!!!
So do I and that was the main cause of my blocked injectors.
I didn't run the car on petrol enough to stop the fuel gumming up inside the injectors.
After I had them cleaned, I was told to run the car on petrol for the last km of the day and the first km of the day. Leaving it switch over to petrol overnight. I've done that now for about four years and not had any more problems. |

You're welcome.
But remember:
Start on petrol in the morning and drive about a kay before switching to gas. If you start and stop several times during the day, just keep running on gas. Then at the end of the day switch to petrol when you get about a kay from home and leave it switched to petrol once you stop the car and switch the motor off.
The idea is that it keeps the injectors wet at night and keeps a flow of new fuel through the injectors to keep them clean. |
