hey all

i know this topic has been covered before, more so in FM MkI than on here. the small insert that goes into the front air-dam of the fairmont etc bumpers - i know this does not retro-fit into the GLi/Futura/XR bumpers, however i want to give it a shot - i have been told that the insert is a diff. length to the std bumper opening - can anyone confirm this? does the insert clip in/out of the fairmont bumper? would plastic welding/sicaflex work best to hold it onto the stock bumper *if* i could get it working?

any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Fraser the air dam splitter clips in, i lost mine on a freeway once and got another one, its 4 clips
and teh bar is moulded for it,
you could fuse the fairmont bumper and the top part of teh xr bumper together so you have a ghia xr front, then put the El front skirt on it

ure dreaming mate its way to different me thinks

the fairmont bumper is alot more round and smooth in that area as well.

u could probably prove everyone wrong by trying it.

what u would be best to do is go to a wrecker get a fairmont front bar and weld the bottom half of the bar to the top half of your xr bar, you may not even have to weld it it may fit some other way

nah not going to attempt to cut my EL XR bumper icon_confused.gif lol i aint that game! icon_lol.gif

i realised it wasn't a straight clip-in - i can pick up a fairmont front bumper in my colour for $50, so was thinking of giving it a go - even if someone with a fairmont could take some piccys & measurements, i could see how (and if) its feasible. anythings possible, but i'm interested to see just how possible this task would be...

fraser it aint possible, as the air dam splitter is recessed into teh fairmont bar, unless you cut off the ends where the clips are

ill measure it now

wouldn't bother.
i'd do as others have suggested and join XR top to fairmont bottom, i've seen it done and it does look good.
