Somebody was giving me ideas tonight about prettying up my engine bay..
All the brackets in my XR8's engine were painted in gloss black before..
they looked good till some idiot mechanic cleaned my engine bay with degreaser, which stripped most of the paint away on the brackets.
Anyways - I was gonna take the motor out, and paint everything again, but someone (not mentioning any names) suggested polishing or chroming the brackets instead.
I have never dont either, so I have no idea on the costs involved.
Anyone got any ideas on how much it would cost to polish or chome the power steering bracket, and alternator bracket...

that is what the engine used to look like (many many years ago)..
I want it to be black with polished bits, or chromed bits now..
what about anodising... is it possible to do that ?? |

personally i reckon polished/hromed wouldnt look right...... gets a bit tacky.....
anodising may be possible, but what colour?
how about getting the parts powdercoated in a different colour? |

I'd definately go for polishing over chroming.
I cant help but wonder how long a polished surface would last in the engine bay... seeing as you actually enjoy driving it and it certainly doesnt sit at home looking pretty all the time. But then i guess you'd be dedicated to keeping her clean...
Polishing could also be done yourself... fairly labour-intensive job i'd say.
BTW you dont have much luck with idot mechanics do you? |

HPC coating would be better - looks like chrome but you will never have to polish it again.
