i am thinking of selling my ef 6 on gas and getting either an el ghia/xr8 or ed xr8 and converting it to gas, main reason being is i do alot of kms and the price of fuel is a b**ch. my ef runs like a dream on gas and was hoping i would have the same exp with an 8. i want an 8 because i simlpy want something different, all my falcons have been 6s.

wat does everyone think about running an 8 on gas? who has done it and can shed some light on the issue?

dont mind slight loss of power just want to know how efficeint it is.

also whats the economy like? i get between 420-470kms out of a 72L gas tank in my current car, can i be expecting similiar of an 8?

thankyou for your info!

I have been thinking of getting one too....!
A mate at work here his best mate works in an engine reconditioners and they see a lot of 5l ford 8's that have problems with a couple of cylinders when run on gas. I was thinking it would depend on what mixer was used and maybe an upper cylinder lube may help? My other thought was one of those hiclone thinggies to aid vapour mixing and even fuel distribution. Anyone else know of this?

I've got my 185KW AU LTD on LPG. Runs fine!

I think the install cost the previous owner $3000. I get 300-350KM around town, 500KM odd out on the highway. The city figures arent great, but the LTD is a big heavy thing icon_wink.gif

they run fine on gas as long as they have a good converter and there in thius new vapour injection that makes you car run as fast on petrol as it does on gas

700k+ Hire car 5.0L NF Fairlane, only mechanical parts replaced were push rods (d***head over reving it on gas) and a water pump at about 690K (Heads have "never been off), petrol fuel system had failed years before it was removed as a HC, but this car still runs around everyday dropping off special kids, and is still running strong, this is and was not a 24hr run car either, it got to cool down all the time, lots of cold morning and arvo short trips.
Does that give you an idea of how good the old 5.0L is, I can tell you at the same place the old EF/EL I6 taxis were not that reliable, plenty of heads off and engines replaced before anywhere near those kms.

Hi

I've got an EB Ghia v8 just recently converted to LPG about 1.5 weeks ago. Parnell did the conversion, and I must say, I am more than happy with the results.

I have a TE50 motor in my EB, 200kw version and the mileage it does on LPG is awesome. First I was getting about 350km's to almost a full tank (full tank being 68L) with my heavy foot..
Recently I started filling different typs of LPG, and I've started getting 350 - 420km's to a tank now, even with my heavy foot!

Anyways, total cost was $2350 for the conversion done, all new parts, 68L useable tank, factory fuel gauge calibrated to work on LPG as well as Petrol too.

Very neat and tidy, was ready in 1 day as well.. best thing is, total cost after the rebate is only $350! Cant go wrong. icon_wink.gif

Can get some pictures if anyone wants, I've done well over 1500kms I'd say now, and not 1 issue yet.

I am considering converting my Ghia wagon to gas. What type/brand of system did you get?

You will find different propane/butane ratio at various service stations. So depending on the tune of your car, you will find mileage and performance differs from fill to fill.

Brads right...... servo's aren't consistant with the quauitly & the octane of gas blends, but from what I here..... el-gas is supose to be quite good,

Also we use to be able to get variable mixters for the 5.0 ltr with our the kits, but my supplier run out & there not going to make any more..... I did a AU 5.0ltr wagon about 12 months ago & I dynoed it up to see what the difence was, gas to petrol & it was only 4 rwkw, the 3 stage tartarini & the variable convertor worked great for a air valve set up. I've hounded them about making more mixters but there just not intrested...IMO stick with a positive set up for the 5.0ltrs & keep the convertor as close as posible to the throtle body heat wrap the service line from the convertor all the way down past the cats & also they have to be sheilded from the exhausts anyway, which is part of AS 1425 lpg rules, the wrapping is not part of the rules but also helps to keep the service line cooler which is better for the convertor...

i have just put a BA MK 11 G220 on the road as a taxi and have installed a Prince Gas System (Direct Injection) and i love it. i have lost no power at all and with a 55ltr tank, i get 350 kms (AND ITS A TAXI). I also know of three other guys that have G220's with over 200,000 kms and thay still rave on about the Prince Gas System. Pro Gas in Clayton installed it for me. Only thing is, it comes with a price tag of around $4,500 but you do get $2,000 back with the grant. icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif
