| G'day i got the EL Hybrid engine, so im guessing i have to have the AU cam. Are the AU cams the same price and do they get the power @2200rpm the same as the normal Stage 2 cam??? |

Hi, the EL hybird & the AU cams are slightly more the stg2 is $250.00 exchange & yes they do make the same power... I recomend using a verier as you can then change when you want the power to start,
I run the same cam spec for a auto & a manual I just dail it up to suit the car meaning, if you got a auto thats not as good as a newly built one then I adjust the dial up to compinsate & the same for a manual, thats why its taken me so long to do them as I've put many hours of R & D in them....
the guy's that are running around with them are the proof... |

Hey Joe, im looking for a Cam for my Au, My car at the moment has full exhaust, intake is done, The head has been port n polished, throats cut , i think the exhaust valve is a tiny bit bigger, there all hardened valves, The humps in the combustion chamber are cut in half to fit the biggeer size of the exhaust side, ive got the double valve springs &vernier, i just need a decent cam to go with this engine i say to get it moving even quiker,
I had a crow cam just removed from my car cos it was giving me headaches, wouldnt run at all, just so rich etc!! I s theere anything to worry about with running a regrind cam?? and what have you got for AU'S
Thanks Joe. |

Joe .... I have read the thread on AFF about your headaches with the Crow cam ... and it's enough to put anyone off modding an engine.
I'd suggest with the work done to your engine that a Stage 3 might be the best bet for you ... you can show Joe at the workshop what sort of work has been done to the head .... as he has a head there with different porting specs on display ... and also a standard port in the same head to show the differences.
Last I heard Joe is still waiting for cams to come back from the guy that grinds them for him. Mines on that list as well.
I'd also suggest an EDIT if you haven't done already too ... as the AU ECu is too smart for it's own good and start getting used to changes and re-calibrates itself to compensate for it. Which can be a pain really. |

| Thats right simon, every one that I spoken to all have said that they have to do an edit or a piggy back of some sort, unfortunalty the EECV has a statigy that won't let any modified cam be user freindly, my cam will also require a an edit or a piggy back, this is only for the AU modles with the EECV ecu. |

I don't do any 5.0 ltr cams as there are some good ones of the shelf that you can buy, the reason I made the i6 cams was, I wasn't happy with what was out there, & yes we have a fully licenced work shop so we can help you with the install & anything else.
thanks
Joe. |

Will see what happens when I get mine through ... will be able to tell you how it goes then ... it's only going to be around a Stage 2 anyway ... suited for LPG.
I'll be the guinea pig I guess ... will report results when it comes to hand.
Anythings gotta be better than standard though. |

Joe, I would rather you go for a capa edit they work well & theres no cutting or wiring up to do, just flashed through the OBD connector & as capa has brought the cost down making way for the new stuff, there more afforable. |

So far so good at the moment.
Has a bit of a lope at idle (sounds much nicer than standard).
Driving normally ... it feels like factory.
But there is a decent surge there from 2200 onwards now ... and doesn't run out of puff and feel strangled from 3500-onwards ... it wants to keep on revving.
Hasn't been on a rollers yet ... I am just running it in at the moment to see how it all goes.
Only issue for the moment is cold starting ... takes a bit longer ... and if i don't keep holding the key on start-up ... it'll cough and then flood (making it a PITA to start from then onwards). It's a case of getting used to it and changing my starting strategy.
Did a 500kg tip run the other day ... and I must admit ... there's less lag in throttle response ... and when loaded up and pushing it in higher gears it feels like it wants to pull more .... no struggling sensation.
Also on the highway ... it feels like it is smoother with less work being done at 2100-2200rpm (around 120km/h-ish).
Normal traffic outer metro cruising feels like factory and so far fuel consumption seems to show it is pretty close to factory (500km from 75L of LPG).
Have done a few lower gear WOT applications ... and didn't realise how much better the ute goes (don't drive like this that much as I was used to heaps of revving and getting nowhere) ... now it is much different than factory. Overtaking is fun now.
Also with the transmission in ... the harder I push it ... the firmer the auto shifts ... must make mental note though ... in the wet and shifting back to 3rd and flooring it .... causes the back of the ute to want to be in front of the front of the ute. Didn't try 2nd (I'd like to actually live to see my 30th B'day).
I am finding the more kays I put on it ... the better it is feeling on the road.
I guess in the end when I get the extra cash though I'll get an EDIT and tune it even more ... but for now .... i am quite happy with the install and the driveability.
More to come after the dyno run I guess. |

I should change my signature I guess.
Not tuned yet ... might also get the cam dialled back a bit for lower down torque as well. So far so good for an EGAS engine. |
